Is it possible to use M50 without screen (buttons only)?

Post by oaprograms »

I have an offer to buy M50 with faulty (dead) screen, for half the price. However, since I haven't had any experience with this keyboard, I don't know if it can be used witout a screen. I have a laptop to control it at home, but I would need to be able to use it on stage without a laptop. Is this possible?

Also, what are some other important things to test before buying used M50, to make sure everything except screen is working properly? Are there any possible 'hidden faults' known on M50?

What are you calling half of the price?
You would not be able to do a live setup without the screen I do not believe at least not without an extreme ammount of advanced programming and even then you would not be able to do set changes as you would quickly become lost with programming.
They sell for like new on Ebay for around 600 bucks.

Unless its less than £200, or you are able to replace the screen yourself, i would pass.

You can get the monochrome screen off ebay if you search for it right. As in the screen assembly is made by Kyocera as well as the M3's. M50's screen part number: kg057qv1cf- etc. If you search it you will find similar models that for sure will hook-up. Another thought to consider is the M3's screen has the same connections it may or may not work.

For instance http://www.ebay.com/itm/KG057QV1CA-G00- ... 25617dd43d

Another thing to consider is the monochrome screen part # starts with KG and the color one starts with KCG.
