Editor generating bad midnam file for Pro Tools 10?

Post by sivert »

Just bought Pro Tools and experience a lot of difficulties with my Kronos.
Finally got midi to and from PT and Kronos. Now I want to see the names of the patches. Well, that should be easy as the Kronos Editor ver 2 generates midnam -files in seconds :) The only snag is that Pro Tools 10 gives me the me this message:

"An unknown error occured while attempting to parse this instrument's patch name document."

If anyone has the knowhow to examine the file and find faults or maybe try it in PT10, here is the file:

PROBLEM SOLVED

Post by sivert »

Finnaly sorted it out with some help from Michael Lambie at Sound Quest Inc. I thought I'd share it with those who care.
This is possybly only an issue with windows but I'm not shure...
Here's what I did to make it work:

1. Load all banks into the Kronos Editor before generating midnam file. (may seem obvious but I forgot that step, lol)

2. Rename the file KRONOS.midnam

3. Replace all instances of &# with &#x0

4. Renamed the model in KRONOS.midnam from Kronos v2 to KRONOS

5. In the file Digidesign Device List.middev I made a copy of the definition for Korg M3R and renamed model KRONOS.

6. Put the KRONOS.midnam file in the Korg folder under MIDI Patch Names...

7. Set up the Kronos in MIDI Studio

And hey presto... at last... I got my patches up and working 8)

I followed your procedure and got the progs to work (thank you!) but not the combis. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I don't even know if that's possible... (combis take up more than one midi-channel in the sequenser).
Perhaps someone else can enlighten us ;)

Thanks for your quick response. In addition, when I did this procedure, the sustain pedal stopped working. Did you ever encounter this?
