It's hard to imagine, but the KRONOS just bests the OASYS in every aspect of it's operation and ability. It has everything the OASYS has, plug way more.
Plug? I thought as much! Freudian slip maybe?

Sorry Sharp...I just had to have some fun with that one!

I actually play the OASYS, which controls the Kronos through MIDI. This way, I have my keys and screen where I want. Yeah, I hate having to hunch over, so this is my work-around. Then again, I got the 61 and had planned to play it from one of my 76 key keyboards anyway.

There are times, when I work with the Kronos by itself - rearranging programs, etc. - I'll actually sit on the couch and put the keyboard in my lap! When I took it to the cabins for the holidays, I had a portable Ultimate Support Systems stand. I couldn't sit in a chair and see the screen properly, so I sat on the edge of a tall bed, which I pulled the stand next to.

I love the Kronos, but hate the non-adjustable viewing angle. I'll probably move it over to my 3 tier angled stand, put it on the bottom and retilt the other boards to allow room for the kind of angle I need.

I'm totally jealous of your 3 V Synths! I have a lot of boards, but most of my stuff is older. I've only bought 3, since 2005 (OASYS, VIRUS, Kronos). I keep dreaming of getting the GT, someday.

I really like your choice of instruments - V-Drums, Integra 7, even the awesome Mackie mixer. Powerful performers.

Here's my cockpit, though this was taken before I got the Kronos.

Ooooh! Nice! I can see those brightly coloured Yamaha cards from here! I used to have a TG77 and had all of the card sets for it. What is the one above the synth on the left with all of the knobs? Is that the Virus?

I always lusted after a JD-800 but never got one after getting my first JD-990. If you do get a GT, cello and I worked on and made available a couple of thousand very nice V-Synth patches that cover a wide range of sounds over on Roland Clan Forums. These originally came from Jim Stout who had had assembled them when he worked for Roland. Best thing...they are free!

SY99.

JP8000. Of course, you have that synth inside each of your GTs. The Virus TI is on the top right.

Wow, thanks. You just gave me another reason to try and get it!

Wow! Fan of the Roland sounds much?!

I'm also a fellow user of the Oasys/Integra combo, and those are two (massive) sound sets that seem to blend and compliment each other quite nicely. Can't even fathom the wall of sounds you must be getting with that PLUS the JP-80, and all of those JD/JV modules!

The other thing that's wild about your setup -- no computer! I can't survive production-wise and compositionally without Logic and Kontakt and numerous other plugins, but I'm always impressed and amazed by you guys out there who work without a DAW and a big screen at the epicenter of your rig. Mad props!

Yeah TP...I started out back in 1992 with a Sound Canvas and the D-70 ran through an MC-50 Microcomposer. At that time, I had never played keyboards, did not really know what MIDI was and could not read or write music. Well, I know what MIDI is now but I still can't play piano and if the KARMA section on the OASYS didn't tell me I was hitting a Cm7_9_13 chord I wouldn't have a clue!

I upgraded to the MC-80 and just got used to it and never took the time to learn or use the sequencer on the OASYS. I understand all of the benefits of a DAW but just never took the plunge since I can just turn everything on and be sequencing within moments.

I am a fan of whatever sounds are useful to make interesting tunes. Here is the rest of the "machinery" that help to make Soundworld music.

Forget about SoundWorld's synths....go to his soundcloud and listen to his music while you read Korg Forums and surf the net. Nice!

Stone the bleedin' crows Billy! I almost had to go over to Soundcloud to see if if I was missing me!

Seriously, I have no issue with Soundcloud, but I would miss all of the artwork and graphix like I have on SpoundClick. Mo'tic and I have to pay for that luxury, but it lets us explore our artsy fartsy sides too!

The OASYS may be old, but it's still a heavy duty music making machine in the Soundworld! :soundsgood

I don't see how you get much of anything accomplished.... I consider myself to be lost in technology (most of the time) vs making a TON of music...(I said consider)...

How do you approach music making with all that to sort through?

I don't read or write music apex so for me it's usually just the pure joy of all out sonic exploration. Since I never played piano in my life, I am also not a true keyboard player so my chops are rather (read: highly) limited.

That's why KARMA and apeggiators are such a large boon to me. For those that consider it "band in a box" that's fine. I don't have a problem with it. Each to his own. Since I'm not a pro, I'm just in there bashing away at whatever sounds good. I'm too lazy to learn drum programming so I still tap out all of the extra drum and cymbal parts by hand.

I have fun with the KARMA tunes, but sometimes those magical moments will happen where it is just pure Kismet without it. The 2012 Christmas tune, "Snowfall Bolero" all came about just from adding the arpeggiator to the Emtim Bells combination on the Triton, and from there it just kind of morphed along with that beautiful cascading bell arpeggio on the Jupiter-80. The unexpected snowfall in Dallas, Texas on Christmas Day just added to the magic, and when I looked out the window and saw it while I was playing, well, let's just say that words can't describe moments like that!

Except maybe to say..."lost in the Soundworld!" :soundsgood
