USB/ Ethernet converters not on the official list

Has anyone had any luck with USB/Ethernet converters not on the current official list?

Yes I use the Nintendo wii one. The one I have is not even the "official" one by Nintendo. It's made by Rocketfish. I got it from Best Buy. Right now it's on sale for $9.99 (regular price is $19.99)

The only problem though is that most of these were only released in Japan. So apart from the Apple, and perhaps the one for Nintendo Wii, they are very difficult to find.

Secondly, the Apple is quite an expensive toy for what it is. You can find cheaper Chinese copies, but I have no clue as to whether they work as well as the Apple one.

In the end, I went the Asus WL-330N route to get wifi. Shame the mobo of the Kronos doesn't have a wifi chip. This would have simplified a few things on the Ethernet connection front.

My only problem is remember my connection info (for some reason it doesn't always stay in the settings)

I would like to add that this particular D-Link adapter does NOT work. I had one beforehand and tried it with the Kronos and it would not recognize it. I ended up getting the Apple adapter

(a) $28 shipped is "expensive?"
(b) The Cisco one costs almost exactly the same.
The Trendnet is $10 cheaper.

We definitely tested a few adaptors that *almost* worked *most* of the time. Those devices did not make it onto Korg's recommended list! The ones on the official list, as stated in the manuals, should work reliably.

Indeed, but there is something you don't realise.

When you are in the UK, there are items you cannot buy on Amazon US !

You try to buy something, and you get a message saying something like "the blablabla cannot be sold outside the US" or "the xxxx cannot be sold in your country".

Secondly, I don't see the point in buying the Cisco on Amazon US (to take this one as an example), only for it to cost more than buying the Apple in the UK once shipping has been added. And BTW, the Apple one in the UK works out at nearly $40, thanks to the usual $1 = £1. Ridiculous, but the Asus wifi one cost me less than buying the Apple model. How daft is that?!

Finally, some of the models referenced seem to have been sold only in Japan, such as the Logitec and TrendNet products. Apart from the Apple model, the Cisco was the only one that was easy to find, although not in the UK.

So, as I was saying, some models are difficult to get hold off. Probably less so in the US.

Very true. Then again, I would expect this sort of money considerations to matter for the Krome more than for the Kronos.

When I take the decision to spend $4000 on a machine, would I pay an extra $200 to get certain things sorted straight away, like a wifi chip on the mobo, a drive that is big enough and maxxed RAM ? Of course I would ! I find it ridiculous that Kronos users would have to buy an upgrade kit when these parts should have been there in the first place, like they are for the Kronos X. Korg would not have spent that much money on buying (in bulk) a mobo with the wifi chip, an extra 1Gb RAM and a 60 Gb SSD instead of the options retained for the original Kronos.

$200 is a big amount to slap on top of the Krome. Less so on top of the Kronos.

So yes, things cost money. But so do wrong marketing decisions.

I was just about to buy a new adapter before I realized I had an old Cisco-Linksys USB200M EtherFast USB 2.0 10/100 Network Adapter from several years ago. I plugged it into the Kronos, it immediately obtained an IP Address, and works without issue. The link in the original post is dead I believe. I don't believe this is on the official list. However, I do know the Cisco USB300M is on the official list. So it's not surprising that this does in fact work. However, I thought anyone else out there might want to know. The key is that many likely work from the same manufacturer of those on the official list, particularly if they're just as dated (old) and share the same speed specs. However, the jury is still out from other manufacturers not on the official list, and especially newer versions which have faster specs etc. But mine works as it is practically the same adapter, but instead of the 300 series, it's the 200 series.

Hy! I would just like to say that I tried the D-Link DUB-E100 ethernet adapter on my Kronos and it works great! Maybe the problem is in the hardware version of the adapter i really dont know, but it works like a charm.
