Had the same thing. Turned out to be just a loose stick of RAM. Though I suppose RAM gone bad would have the same effect.
I don't know how far away you are from a service center, because obviously the best advice would be to let Korg sort it out. If that's impossible, or you need your Kronos straight away again, it's not a terrible chore to open it up and have a look yourself. I just reseated the RAM and it was fine again. Terrifying when it happened, but an easy fix.

...or use the "Full Install" option - reinstalling the system from the DVDs? The function does the following:
- Restores the system software on the internal hard drive
- Initializes the internal memory, and re‐loads the original factory preload data–including all Programs, Combinations, Drum Kits, Wave Sequences, and Global settings
- Erases all files inside the internal hard drive’s FACTORY directory, and then restores the factory preload files, including the PRELOAD.PCG file and the demo sequences (leaves all other data on the disk intact).
Summary:
1. Time (Full Install): 40 minutes (DVD1) + 8 minutes (DVD2)
2. Result: the Kronos is alive – OS. 1.0.1!
Then, you re-installed the system: 2.0.6. Operation time: 2 minutes. Everything works!

So sorry to hear that there's a problem with the Kronos.
Forgive the lack of advice here.......I have no answers.....but would like to ask other members if a full restore could be done via an usb stick instead of a dvd drive ?
I don't have a suitable dvd drive at the moment and because some owners are also having problems with their own etc,....perhaps my requested information may help us.
Best Wishes.

System Failure
Had same issue. Had to go back to Korg! They replaced motherboard. Best to contact dealer or Korg for advice.

I had the exact same problem. Ultimately, Korg shipped me a new K-61 via my repair shop. Although you might want to reseat the RAM and check all physical internal connections. But don't screw anytrhing up and void your warranty.
PS- my serial # was in the early 1000s.

Hello Maudy,
when you turn it on does the red line move up to just below the S in music?
If so you might have faulty Ram.
Mine loaded to the S and the same message came up. the ram was faulty and replaced it and it has been going fine ever since.
regards from
Mikee.
