Have just bought a maxed out Triton Studio 88 key.......

Post by keez »

....and I need to FULLY restore it to factory settings.

I used to be more of a keyboard guy many years ago, and still have my WavestationEX and Roland W30.

Have been using just my Clavinova for the past 10 years or so, but have just decided to get back into synths and treated myself to a MINT condition Triton Studio 88 fitted with the following....

Moss expansion.

PCM01 Pianos/Classical keyboards

PCM02 Studio essentials

PCM03 Future loop construction

PCM04 Dance extreme

PCM05 Vintage archives

PCM06/07 Orchestral collection pack

PCM09 Trance attack

CDR1 internal CDRW

3x 32mb memory upgrade

Korg CDRW1 drive

Thing is though, I want to get rid of ALL of the previous user's edits and restore fully to factory presets.

All of the expansions came fitted, but also came with all the boxes and floppies. I don't have a floppy drive in my pc, but I believe you can burn the latest OS onto cd, transfer the files into the Triton's HD, and then write to floppy using the Triton.

Does this sound right.

So, where do I start? I want to completely wipe this thing and start from scratch (if that's what it takes)

Thanks for looking in guys, and hope you can help me. :)

http://www.korg.co.uk/support/downloads ... dio_dl.php

Link contains factory restore program.

Copy to disk(s) or load to Studio via MIDI if you have that capability.

Recommend PCGTools (PC) or TritonLib (PC) or LeLibby (Java) as organizing librarians and (PCGTools) editor.

Also, the Studio's arp section is large enough to hold and use the Triton Extreme's full load if you are looking for a "best of" (that would require extensive work to coordinate with the large number of EXB cards installed).

Good Luck.

Agghhhh...I really need some help here!

I've succesfully updated the os to the latest, 2.02

Here's an example of one of the problems that I have.

Towards the right, there are two rows of banks, INT and EXB A-G. When I bought the keyboard yesterday, it came with the PCM09 Trance expansion board fitted. I took this out and replaced it with PCM01 Pianos/Classic keyboards.

At this point, obviously the preset data for the Trance expansion is still in the bank(in this case EXB A)

So I put the floppy disc in that comes boxed with the PCM01 card. It comes up as C_BANK and D_BANK. I highlight C_BANK and select "load selected" from the dropdown. The next screen comes up and I leave it at the default "PCG contents - ALL" and select "OK"

(at no point have I been asked which bank to load it into).

It then takes about 15 secs to load. Once it's loaded, it says "writing to internal memory" for a few secs, and then it's done.

But where are the Piano and Classic keyboard combis and progs? The trance stuff is still there.

What am I doing wrong?

The EXB disc assumes that you're loading into a Triton Classic which was preloaded with A-B banks. A+B are as close as it comes to "don't-overwrite-me" programs as you'll find since the EXB cards reference A+B bank sounds.

C and D banks were, I think, blank (tho there may have been some additional sounds in the C bank) leaving D and E as User Banks. F bank is available only with Moss option installed. G is General MIDI

The Load Disc with the EXB boards come with a bank that overwrites C and a bank that overwrites D. You may see a prompt that asks you which of the C or D banks you'd like to load them to - that's part of the auto load routine.

As soon as you see that prompt push "exit", then push "disk".

You should then see a series of folders that open in the same manner as a Windows master folder and sub files. You can then select a folder and that upper right prompt will ask you whether you want to load or save, etc.

What you wnat to do is explore down to the bank level of the .pcg (master) file to the Program &/or Combi level.

If you load a program bank from the DISC menu you should see the option to save to a particular destination bank (H...I...J.. etc) even if the original bank was saved as a C bank.

[...which is where the EXB-01 programs should be having overwritten automatically whatever was there under the Studio's Factory download/restore disc.]

Save the Restore disc and just do some experiments with saving.

-----------

Arps = korg shorthand for arpeggio patterns - i.e., drums, synths ,bass - that can be set up to play automatically behind your playing. Not the same as auto-accompaniment strictly speaking, but a n interesting and useful tool for songwriting.

-----------

OK --- REALLY SINCERELY recommend you look at using a software librarian for loading, arranging, and managing voices... for drag and drop simplicity and a visual interface that actually shows where stuff is going.

Bill, thanks a tonne for taking the time to type out that very informative reply, makes a lot of sense. Gave me a nice.... "ohhh....I seeee" moment :)

Which, would you say, was the best software librarian to use? I've emailed the guy who wrote PCGTools software and asked him for a copy (the only way to get it as far as I can see).

I extensively hacked my Triton Classic several years back (10+!?) using TritonLib, which is very basic/librarian only but worked really well and was bug free. I don't know if that is still the case, and I'm no longer using PC so I don't have recent usage to fall back on in making a recommendation as I've not got a Win7+ (current PC) to run it on.

Michael K's PCG tools is current, he is a presence here often and is generally very responsive. You need to email for a copy - as you appear to have done - and should get a response pretty quickly unless he's out doing whatever the Dutch equivalent of Mardi Gras partying this weekend.

Seriously tho', his is probably the best and certainly most current software available for pretty much the entire Korg line from triton forward, so his would be the best.

Be aware that his may be a big bite as far as learning curve goes unless you've used DAW type software -- the GUI design is similar.

LeLibby is a JavaRunEnvironment program, which I used 3 or 4 years ago to reorganize my Triton Extreme and it works well also. With Java installed it should run on a mac with no problems. It is stable and works nicely and has a few more bells and whistles than TritonLib allowing you to explore combis to look at constituent programs.
