HOLD the backing

I looked at the manual and just want to confirm. Is the only way to hold the backing (ex background strings) is to edit the sound itself ?

I'm looking for a way to be able to do this on the fly while playing and not have to change the backing sound during playing. I know my Yamaha has a simple "Hold" button that will do it ... Thank in advance.
