I did mine myself on Tuesday, ordered from crucial on Friday £15.59, took five minutes to do. It's no more difficult than taking the side off a computer case and sticking in an extra ram stick other than the extra screws to take out the bottom lol :)

I contacted Korg UK asking for an upgrade, the ram was temporary out of stock and I asked the consequences of upgrading by myself.....their answer was that the warranty would have been voided in this case.
I asked also if any of the korg dealer could do it (I'm in Dublin, Music Maker is a Korg dealer so it would be very useful)....no, only KORG can do it without voiding the warranty.

Considering what Ojustaboo went through with Korg UK, I wouldn't be all that impressed with their warranty to begin with. Nor would they be able to tell if you put in extra RAM yourself or had it done. Even if they kept a record of this, you could easily take it out before sending it in.

I agree with SanderXpander. I don't think they would be able to tell who installed the RAM. If you do it be careful taking out the screws. Maybe put a thin clother over the screwdriver so you don't scratch the screws. Put the RAM in and reassemble. I don't think they could tell you did it.

I would rather install the RAM myself, then take the change of shipping to them to install. God knows what could happen in shipping.

Yep it's just a stick of ram, don't over think it lol. If something goes wrong down the line just take the ram back out, they don't have hidden cameras inside the case :)

An e-mail was sent from Korg to my dealer saying that if owners opened up the keyboard themselves without causing any damage or faults related in doing so,Korg would favorably judge any future repair work they carry out on an individual basis and will be at their discretion whether the warranty would be affected.

Basically,it suggests that they won't mind too much if owners do such an install (including an additional ssd,presumably...)as long as no damage is done.......but....
they could also say otherwise...

As said,a self install can be removed prior to any service center work.....no on will ever know....

Regarding marking the screw heads.....they are already marked to a degree via the assembly process and in my case, the memory card was fitted post manufacture by Korg UK.
Also,I've re - tightened and checked them all myself after finding a couple of loose ones.

Not forgetting that an owner is allowed to do so especially if the front gap needs adjustment after transporting,....live gigs etc.

I think that would be dishonest. Thus, it has already been tried a few times :)

I don't think it's dishonest, Korg Uk have already stated their position regarding any "tampering" by owners.

By removing any self installed additions and replacing as was, would simply be reinstating to the original build.
It may well be noticed that the work has been done, but as said,if no damage etc....

No one is compelled to do any such mods to their unit and it is advisable not to take the chance regarding warranty, anyway.
However, for those who don't really care about manufacturer's guarantees or when it expires and are capable...there exists a choice.

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but it is intended to help make things a little clearer.

Best Wishes.

Oooops....forgot the....

Apart from the cost factor, my biggest concern is that unless people know different, I can't find a domestic courier willing to insure the Kronos in the UK.

Edit: have found one I think, read on

That aside, I would love someone to put the Kronos 88 box dimensions and weight into a firm in Ireland that's willing to take the Kronos to England, and tell me what the cheapest they can find.

The Kronos 88 box is 164 x 56 x 28 cm, weighs just under 25 kg and almost all UK domestic couriers say its too big.

After a while of hunting I found one willing to send to Ireland from England, 2 - 4 days delivery, cost £77 + VAT making a total of £92.40 just to send one way, they appear to insure it for the full £3000 (obviously could only take the booking so far) for £25, presuming its a similar cost back again, we are talking a whopping £232.40 (about $350) just to get it there and back, and it could take up to 8 days in total in transit alone.

Absolute madness to expect a sane person to do this.
