Post by kisto »

hi to everyone! (sorry for my English..) Before some days i realized of my instrument something strange.. when i turn it on the logo of Korg pa 800 is appeared normal and the next step is a white screen (in normal condition this white screen is only for 1-2 seconds) now this white screen is remain for 5-6 sec and then is continuing normal the boot loading the operation 2.02.
i format and i install the operation again without any result..
my instrument except this is playing normal! i havent got any problems of play sounds ,rythms .... or any other job is playing perfect!
Is anyone has the same thing with me? do you believe it is a problem of my instrument?

Leave it as it is and as long as it will last functional ! this is screen hardware issue !
When later screen totally fail , visit service center to replace it !

How long it will last is anyone's guess, but if you're a working muso, get it done ASAP. You can't afford to do otherwise, but I'm sure you know that already. If you're just noodling around at home, then it's not such a big deal and you might as well see it out. Good luck.

I think my screen is also white for about 5 seconds. Booting up continues and nothing bad happens.
I experienced not any problem with the instrument so far.
So I don't think it's something to worry about (I hope).

I just put a brand new display, and driver board, in my older PA800, and this is what it's doing. So, even with a new display, it is doing it. It may not be the display, it may be something else.

empty display

Post by vstavros »

hahahaha... unbelievable ...I am facing this problem last two week with my PA80, and finally two days ago... my display got off, now remains white -empty... with a black parallel line in the bottom,
So I just ordered the PA800 and I am waiting to receive it... and now I am reading the same trouble in a PA800...
Actually I do not believe it is problem of the display, but maybe the power supply or some board is not works property and display does not work.

Now I have to go it for repair as soon as I receive the new, since I am playing music in a Greek taverna on Sundays...and I need it.
I am not sure if technician can find the exact problem and repair it...hahahaha
but I shall send it ...

for any news regarding this problem I shall post..

Just believe it ! It's a clear matter of expendable hardware and common consequence in Pa800 ,
though not often for Pa80 under statistics !
Also Pa80/800 are working perfectly from 160-260 v (Greece Main PS) and has no essential effect in screen module.
I am not sure if technician can find the exact problem and repair it.
Official technician (f.e. Σωτήρης) will just change screen nodule , screen driver and fluorescent lamp (if required)
if these really exist in stock , and you'll pay the sum of modules he will replace , so there is nothing more than just
changing boards in our days , not actually board repairing as electronics veterans used to do in old good days !

Thanks for your info. After PA80 checked, the technician is sure that screen has the fault (maybe caused of humidity...since inside all boards are not dusty)
But we can not find LCD display as spare part to order....and we are searching it...I found it somewhere on a site for 299dollars...!!!!
Actually, yesterday while I was playing LCD display came back ...with all digits to be shown!!!. Today morning, before go to me job, I turned on for checking and it is ok.

ANTONY I have to call you since next week I 'll receive a brand new PA800, so it needs Greek styles...and I listened your styles...and sounds excellent...!!!

This observation of yours is the final prognosis !
Your screen is just fine and screen driver circuit is defected and If your ordered just a standalone screen then your
issue will remain if just replacing only LCD screen !

Another query that must be clarified is "do screen LCD pixels work under sunlight ?" 'cause in that case
it's just the fluorescence lamp or it's AC driver ?"

Humidity can affect only led boards and switches causing error functions very low temperatures can mostly
effect CPU and Ram , and both can never effect LCD screen !
Both mentioned cases will be vanished after a while when arranger is powered on.
Also a supplied module board can't create or maintain moisture ( as I read somewhere) , but instead it
eliminates moisture gradually as temperature raises !.

I wrote these tips for other members , since for the rest mentioned we can talk by phone !

Finally, after checking, my first sense was correct. The problem is not on LCD screen or LCD board...but...yes this that you are thinking about..MOTHERBOARD ... Using my LCD-board- screen to another PA80, the screen works properly. So, either there is a trouble on the part of motherboard that sends signal on LCD screen-board, or a trouble on the connector between motherboard and LCD-board.

I ;ll try .. to find and repair, cause no spare parts are available for PA80.

- Second case is affordable and can be solved.
- First case which is rather very seldom case for such an issue , is completely out of question 'cause
nobody can reprogram Rom multiplexer data even in case that could replace memory chip and peripherals , so
you have to find motherboard and replace it !
