Triton display back light not working

I have a Triton Extreme, display backlight not working, very difficult to see the display. Did I do something?

There is a light adjustment knob somewhere, look here in the guide it should have a pic of it in the beginning.

Hi rstrawsburg,

Did you find a solution? I have the exact same problem. It has happend a few times when powering up the TEX. After a minute or so, the backlight is back on. But when finally turning it on this morning, after standing in my basement for a couple of months without beeing used, it is now permanent

I know a repleacement of the display may be the sulution, but for now I will try and disasemble the unit and see if the cables are in place and everything. I'll post as well, if i solve the problem.

If it's just the backlight that's out (meaning you can read the display fine), you just need to replace the bulb which is MUCH cheaper and no more difficult than replacing the entire display.

Thanks for the reply! I just tried to open the TEX and see if there was any obvious faults. The backligt is driven by a board named KLM-2479, and measuring the output for the backlight with power on the TEX, there is no power on the connector. I did a google on that, and found this link to the Korg forum. http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... c&start=15

So the problem is apperently that the backlight doesn't get power, which is suggested in the post as well. Do you have any idea where to buy a board like this? Do you know what the power source for the backlight should be? I could try and fire it up with an external power source to make sure the bulp works.

So a little update... Got a wild idea today - maybe the backlight was supplied AC instead of DC which was what I was measuring. When I got home from work I tried it, and indeed there is ~60V AC on the cables.

So this means only one thing. I have to change the screen

( Unless anybody has experience with changing only the backlight. The display as such is working fine.

McHale do you know where I could find a backlight?

there's a thread in the Triton Classic section that lists the part number and where to get it. It's almost nothing for the light. Let me dig and see if I can find it.

Thanks! There is a RS-component store just a few miles from my office, so I'll go buy the lamp later today. I'll give the replacement it a shot this evening. I'll take some pics and let you all know how it goes.

Is there anything to be especially careful about? I read what Maxextreme wrote in your post, and that's an ok guide I guess. Do you have any pictures showing the operation?

If this is endeed gonna work, I'm going to be very pleased! Alot cheaper than replacing the entire display.

congrats! I haven't done it yet but plan on it if my display gets any worse.

Please let me know if you decide to pull that blog and I'll swipe the pics and repost them. I don't think anyone has posted pics of swapping the light.

Martin, your blog skips a lot of difficulties. For a start you should remove expansion ram and the EXB-MOSS if you have one (for screws underneath it). Then the plate the motherboard is mounted upon needs to be unscrewed. But after that, I am not sure how to proceed. I need to unplug some cables to take the motherboard and mounting plate away. Not sure about that. What is required after that step? Does the keyboard have to be removed as well?

I guess my "tutorial" could be a bit more detailed. I'm an electronic engineer working with PCB and flatcables every day, so sometimes I mistakely asumes that everyone knows how to handle that.

Well as I remember, all cables need to come off. Flat cables are actually very durable as long as you remember to un-do them in their socet. Usually it is done wither by lifting a small plastic bracket on top of the connector, or by releasing locks at each side of the connector. When that is done you can easily remove the cable. If it does not come out easy - you have not un-locked it correctly.

From picture 2 you can see that the keyboard has been removed, so yes that needed to be done.

You're also rigth about the RAM and MOSS, and again it was me assuming too much

Are you changing the backlight as well?

Thanks for your thoughts. I did stop before removing any plugs from the motherboard. In fact it is reassembled right now so I could ease my mind that what I've done so far has not damaged anything. I in fact upgrade PC components regularly for work, but I am REALLY careful with this upgrade. So there's only the unplugging of motherboard cables and the keyboard to get to the panel.

I already have a replacement backlight, my TE did the long time to turn on in cold weather thing and then finally never turned on at all. I'm sure its the lamp.
