How to install a TRI-SCSI

Post by franckbouly »

Hello,

I just have this option for my trinity (version 2.4.1) but I have no manual to help me.

How to install a TRI-SCSI on a trinity ???

If you have some photos it would be helpful ;-)

I tried to fix it but it no working very well. I have this message when I connect a ZIP :
SYSTEM ERROR
file name:cscsitim.cc line #73
Error code: 107 decimal, 6B hex
...etc.

Please Help ;-)

You are connecting the ZIP while the Trinity is switched off, right? This type of SCSI is not hot-pluggable, so you have to shut down the synth every time you make a change to the SCSI connections and then reboot. Is your ZIP drive (or the last drive on the SCSI chain) terminated?

Here on the forum you have the 'KorgTrinity-ManualsCompilation.zip' archive, which also includes the manual you're after.

Thank for your answer and the manual.

I have just one Zip connected on the TRI-SCSI and I turn on the Zip first and after the Trinity but I have the same message :

SYSTEM ERROR
File name :cscsitim.cc line #73
Error Code: 107 decimal, 6B hex
FILESYS_SCSITIMER_TIMEOUT no response from x490/x492
PC: FFE4DDAA SR:80070004 SSP: FF0B3604 USP: FF0BBDBC

How to check the TRI-SCSI ?

This is the only one who is connected to the SCSI port. I have just one ZIP.

OK, now is it TERMINATED? This should be done by a small (or not so small) DIP switch on the back, or using a special terminator plug on the other SCSI connector on your device (ZIP), or some similar way. As far as I remember it was a switch on my ZIP drive. You should check the manual how to do it. A SCSI bus has to be terminated at both ends to operate correctly. In this case both the SCSI card and your ZIP must have bus termination on.

You can find some more information here, for example: http://www.iomega.com/support/manuals/z ... guide.html

Thank you for your answer.

It was very helpful :D Now, I unterstand why it doesn't work correctly.

In fact, my ZIP is a ZIP250P, not A SCSI... :?

Yesterday, I find a HDD SCSI (on ebay), I hope that it will work !

Regards,

Franck

PS : Sorry, my english is not perfect

Oh, that would explain a few things... :)
It should work with the SCSI HDD, but sometimes it doesn't. I had difficulties with 68 pin SCSI connector HDDs, most 50 pin HDDs worked. Hope you get the right one and will work with the appropriate adaptor...

Same thing going on...

Post by rayd8 »

Hi All,

I bumped into this interesting discussion regarding the Korg Trinity and this error ScsiTimeout.
I have exactly the same thing going on, but even without any device connected to the scsi-port of the HDR-TRI. It's driving me nuts why the Trinity is doing that... Does anybody have similar experience with the Trinity/this error?
Thank you for any help regarding this, would be nice to have the Trinity going with the HDR-option :-)

Did it work before? If so, what changed when you started to get this error message?

Trinity HDR-Troubles...

Post by rayd8 »

Hi SynthJoe,

First off al: Thanks for your help, i really appreciate it.

I have bought a Trinity (older version), then bought the HDR-option.
To install the HDR:
1) PCB modification has been made by an electronics engineer
2) reset the Trinity (Enter+Reset if i'm correct) + reinstall 2.4.1 software version (since the SOLO option is installed in the Trinity too)
3) power off + install HDR option board
When i power on the Trinity with the HDR installed she give me this same error:
SYSTEM ERROR
file name:cscsitim.cc line #73
Error code: 107 decimal, 6B hex
...etc.
RAM Init (0 + Enter i think) didn't do anything at all too...
For your information: there is nothing connected on the scsi-port, but even then she gives me this error...
Only when i disconnect the HDR-option on the Trinity PCB the Trinity boots fine again...
Yesterdayevening i tested the PBS-option and that seems to work fine. It would however be nice to be able to load the config/samples from CD-ROM or Jaz/Zip (which i all have plenty of) :-/
Thanks for any help regarding this and greetings from Belgium,

Ray

Hi All, i also noticed that when starting the Trinity with the HDR fitted, she displays the following version: -1.-1???? > can somebody confirm me that this is a normal behavior of the Trinity/HDR when v2.4.1 is installed?

No, it's not normal. And I'm not aware of any PCB modification that would be needed for the installation of a HDR-TRI.

You'll need to go back to the basics - remove the HDR-TRI, also PBS-TRI and the SOLO-TRI.

Then reboot. If the display still says a nonsense version, then try the OS update again.

If it fails, I'll buy it off your hands for a good price. :) (Seriously, if THAT fails, then you might have a real problem, perhaps that PCB modification was not needed and/or properly done, after all...)
