Hi everyone, I've just bought an EMX. This is my first ever piece of hardware for production and I'm loving it!
Im trying to get it set up and playing properly with Live 9.
When I plug a midi cable from the out of the unit into my Novation keyboard I can play a synth part in keyboard mode but when I record and switch to step mode it goes silent. All notes are registered and light up it but no sound at all.
As soon as I unplug the cable the sound returns. This isn't the case for the drums, they are playing as normal but all synth parts are affected.
Live is registering the midi input on all the correct channels.
Please help

sorry to hear that man! it will help us to help you if you define the problem more specifically.
what is your signal chain? are you going emx midi out>novation KB midi in>novation KB midi out>live midi in?
are you trying to use your emx to sequence your novation KB?
when you record and switch to step mode, are you hitting record on the emx, or in live 9? recording a pattern on the emx, then switching to step edit while the sequence is playing should still send the note data to your KB, perhaps the midi filters on one or both aren't set up correctly.
when you say it goes silent, are you talking about your novation or your emx, or live 9?
are you using your novation KB as an audio interface, or as a synth module controlled by the emx?
do your best to explain the process that leads up to the error, as well as what you're trying to accomplish and hopefully we'll be able to assist.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. Apologies for the delay. I thought I'd get an email when someone replied. I must have my settings wrong. Oh well. Here goes
The routing is as you guessed. It goes emx midi out, Novation sl midi in and then routed through USB into live. I don't use the Novation as an audio interface. I use a Xone 4d.
The Novation is just a midi keyboard and in this instance are just using its midi ports to route through to live as I've never had much luck use the Xones. Previously I've connected an iPad with I'm multimedia cable. This is the first time I've had proper hardware (first of many
)
Im mainly interest in recording midi from the emx into live so along with the audio I've got the midi to try out accompanying parts, layering or replacing in the box at a later date. Ive also been looking at the direct emx vst.
My set up currently has live 9 as master clock through the Novation and into the emx. Once I've tweaked the midi latency in live this works solidly. I then route the audio from the emx into the one of the xone channels. Again all is well and I can record in live. This is all with no midi cable connected to the midi out of the emx and into the keyboard.
Once I plug this cable all, anything I had playing in any of the synth parts immediately stop playing. The lights in the sequencer still light on the correct steps but no audio. Live also registers all the midi. The drum parts play as expected. When I switch to keyboard mode on the emx I can play and hear the notes. Switch back to step mode and all synth parts fall silent again.
As soon as the midi connection is broken, either at the emx side or the keyboard side the audio plays in all it's glory.
I've emailed the uk support team. I don't know if I'm not explaining correctly or they don't understand me but they keep trying to blame live and it's midi settings but all seems well on that side.
It seems like the unit can't transmit audio and midi at the same time.
Is there any setting I need to change to enable both to be transmitted at once.
If its the possibility of midi filters please be gentle as midi cc's and nfr's confuse the sh*t out of me
