Thanks for the links Apex. It certainly has given me a lot more to think about although not necessarily an easier choice. A the moment the XF leads the race for me. But Namm is right around the corner so maybe something new will happen there. Where's that Namm rumor thread? :D

Nothing really happens at the summer NAMM.

Hi SanderXpander :)

That's the answer/direction I hoped someone would eventually bring up.

Would you please tell me why you/I would be better off not sequencing on a keyboard, and just recording directly to our DAW of choice?

Thanks!

Big screen, drag and drop facilities, automation drawing, bussing, easy integration of external plugin, easier cutting and pasting etc etc etc.

life long argument... that no one will EVER be able to put a 100% yes or no answer on... that's why I didn't say anything... lol

To me, whether I use the board itself or the DAW, it's like driving a car, I adjust to it within the first few minutes of driving it. I know some never learn to drive a stick shift, but I personally wouldn't want to find myself not going anywhere because I couldn't deal with what's there. I've seen a few friends through the years that use their onboard sequencer with the DAW and get some nice tricks going on between the two.

For me though, my preference in using a DAW comes down to one factor.

PPQN.

Hi Stipes :)

Have you ever tried the Yamaha app called Mobile Music Sequencer?

Our buddy apex says it's very close to the MOTIF Pattern Mode.

Sorry but while I agree you can do nice things with an on-board sequencer if you know it well, there is simply no argument when it comes to flexibility and ease of editing, let alone plugin integration. Every musical style puts its own demands on the equipment but I dare say that virtually no commercially released record is produced on a keyboard's integrated sequencer.

Well there's plenty of argument for and against. Even though I agree with a preference in using a DAW, it's pointless to argue with a person that only sees their own point of view as absolute. What I do like better about the DAW is like I said before, the PPQN resolution. The other thing is the ease in applying multiple time signatures. If the sequencer wasn't there, chances are, I wouldn't miss it really, but then again, I don't mind it being there and I'm on no crusade to make everyone see it my way.
