ezdrummer and padkontrol: a hate/hate relationship

I've just bought a new Padkontrol with Ezdrummer bundles with it, and while i can get padkontrol to interface with my DAW (ableton live 8 ) fine (if without sound, but it's registering the notes so that's a question for the ableton forum more than this one), ezdrummer won't recognize it as a midi device at all. pressing the "MIDI devices" option in the drop down menu of ezdrummer says there are none connected, and none of the fiddling with the inputs/outputs of padkontrol in the editor librarian has changed anything. any had a similar problem and found the fix? i'm very new to this whole MIDI interface thing, so have no idea what else i can do to fix it.
