Irish whistle - help (Sharp perhaps??)

Post by karmathanever »

Hi guys

I REALLY want (need) this sound - love it!!!
Played here in the unplugged version of The Corrs cover of "Little Wing"
http://youtu.be/CUX7vswXbJE

Anyone help/advise please?

FYI:-
I believe this is a "Little Black D" Whistle, made in Dublin, Ireland by Walton's, and is tuned to the key of "D".

Cheers

Hi Pete,

Sounds like she had a fiddle backing her on the whistle. I used a Pan pipe + a little fiddle mixed in and got a close facsimile. Something to try out and play with until you can get some good samples. Maybe Sharp has a suggestion? ;-)

p.s. I have that exact whistle. Nice! I like my WhistleSmith's low G a bit better tho. ;-)

Dragging more information from the video.

Is she using two separate effects there? There seems to be quite a lot happening at times. I can be quite restrained with the effects (from a separate processor in the rack) as I don't want the kids I work with to sound over processed.

All of which leads me to a question about how much people use, with the passage of time, the onboard TCHelicon. Was it a pleasant thing to dabble with when starting with the board, but with the passage of time becomes less important or is it a piece of kit that gets better the more you get acquainted with it.

Hi Chris

This is close to completely unplugged so her sound is pretty raw in terms of effects. However, of course she is playing in unison with the violin which creates a nice overall sound.
Someone just pointed out that there is a "Tin-Whisle" sound already on my Kronos so I'll have to check that out.

Cheers

'twas more the vocal side I was listening to, Pete...but perhaps I am at risk of hijacking a thread, given that the OP was to do with the tin-whistle.

Apologies
Chris
