Recorded in ableton 8.2.2. live. No sound when R3 unplugged?

Post by xenoglossiac »

Hi everyone, I have a question about ableton recording.

When I record in the midi track of ableton, I have a usb for the midi connected to laptop and synth and also a audio cable for the audio :)

After I recorded it and saved the file, when I replayed it by unplugging the R3,"none"

How do I record into ableton with the same sounds that would occur when I had the R3 plugged in? Is it possible through midi, just because I have bad microphone.

Thank you

No.

Okay, that's too brief. Have you seen a MIDI file? They're only a couple KB in size because it's just a series of performance instructions, even though it can contain a whole song. The reason you hear no sound when you playback the MIDI track without your synth plugged in is because the synth contains the engine that interprets that data and plays it through the engine. Without that synth engine and whatever patch you've chosen within it, there's nothing to play the data. Basically, you've got the sheet music but no piano to play it on.

Oh I see then. So how do artists like Grimes or Crystal Castles record their music into lets say for example Garage Band?

I can see that it is basically sheet music now. Thanks

You use an audio interface and hook up the audio outputs of your R3 to the computer. Record that into Ableton.
