Creating your own arp patterns on KoPro

Post by SMK »

The top #1 complaint about the Kaossilator Pro is that, it does not include the 50 or so arp patterns the original Kaossilator has. Instead you are told that you can make your own patterns via the slider on the Pro. As most everyone has mentioned this is clearly not efficient in creating your own custom patterns. One main issue that compounds the problem is the fact that one has to flip a switch in the back of the unit to go from arp speed to arp gate time.

For those of you who own a KP3 there is an effective solution. thankfully the arp speed and arp time are called out as CC93 and CC91. When you midi out from your KP3 to your new KoPro first clear all the global settings and only keep the X and Y controls active. Set your X to CC93 and Y to CC91 on your KP3. Now when you play your KoPro use your KP3 to control arp changes to create your own arp programs. Once more you can use the KP3 to automate the the pattern changes via the pad motion button. let that keep going as you try out different programs on your new KOPro. As you know the pad motion sequences can be saved as one of the 8 programs on your KP3 (yeah the only thing that would be kool is if the KoPro stored arp changes with the programs not the static position). So now while you may not be able to have all 50 of your favorite arp creations at least you get 8.

As far as managing KP3's normal function as an effects box for your kit, you can still run your KP3 like normal with out it effecting the arp of your KoPro set up by simply turning the arp button off on the KoPro side. And you control the KP3's effect on your set up while your making your arp creations live by setting your effect level to 0.

I hope all of this helps. I will post a youtube on this sometime soon.

Note: reedited this post because I was on a major KoPro high last night at 4am when I typed this. Saw a lot of errors when looking at this today.

really nice trick here, ill be using it (and also find a way to assign a couple knobs on the tribe to do that) in case the kp3 is in use as an fx)
