Electribe EA-1 MIDI sync problems...PLEASE help

Post by seaside33 »

hello first post here, hi everyone.

I am going crazy here. For the last three days I have been having horrible problems syncing electribe and Reason 7.

All I want to do is hit play in Reason 7 and have the electribe start playing and then hit stop in Reason 7 and have the electribe stop playing. If anyone can help me figure out how to do this I will paypal $10 for your help.

Here are some details:

Reason 7 set up:
-have midi clock sync checked (so it is sending midi clock signal out to electribe)
-have the correct midi interface/port in preferences (i am using a hosa midi to usb cable, just purchased, b/c previously i was using m audio uno and having problems, that it could have been the cable)
-midi channel set to 1.
-read manual over and over again and it seems like everything is properly done.

Electribe EA-1 Setup
-set it to "ext" so it can receive midi data
-midi channel is set to 1
-read manual over and over again and it seems like everything is properly done.

Here is what works
-i can use the electribe as a midi controller for Reason.
-if i switch the electribe to "int" i can control Reason transport with electribe transports (all i want is to be able to do this the other way around, having reason control the electribe transport)
-I can play/program patterns from reason to the electribe

Here comes the strange stuff:
-When I turn up Reason tempo the green beat light on the electribe speeds up. So there is some midi clock info being sync'd right?
-I can hit play on the electribe and electribe starts playing, then i hit play on reason and reason starts playing....then real strange: when i hit stop on reason it stops the electribe! This one blows my mind, I don't get it or understand it at all! i try to hit play on reason and electribe still does NOT play.

Please someone help me, this is soooo frustrating I don't know what to do, or test out next, I have no idea. I have been unplugging, replugging, restarting, everything I can think of. Nothing is working. I have iMac, Reason, electribe.

thanks

I got it to work...i guess.

I was using a m audio midisport 1x1 gray box thing, that did not work at all.

Then tried hosa midi to usb cable and that made it partially work, which made everything harder to diagnose. It would receive tempo from Reason, but inside reason I was not able to play/stop electribe. So this made things extremely confusing.

Finally I tried and old cme usb to midi cable i got couple of years ago with some midi keyboard or something like that, that was in the bottom or a drawer. Plugged this in, and it just works flawless-ly...stops, plays, loops, etc... just perfect!! :)

I do not understand why the other two did not work, it is very strange and I do not get it at all. I really would like to know what the others did not work, but at least i got it working for now, so I am happy

I've had mixed success with USB Midi devices. My first cheapo one wouldn't work with my Proteus 2000 no matter how hard I tried, but a proper Emu 1x1 worked just fine. They appear to be a bit of a black art, probably down to individual implementation in the hardware in the units.

You are probably right.

I hated the m audio one, but it worked for about a year till it started acting up.

I just purchased that hosa one from best buy for $60!!! thinking you get what you pay for, so for $60 is has to be good, i was wrong, it is getting returned tomorrow.

I am looking into purchasing a back up just in case, with these things you never know.

I was going to try and get another cme, i see some sights selling them for about $30, never tried the e-mu.
Is this the one (link below) you are talking about?
