How use the Bhringer FCB1010...?

Post by jac38 »

Hi

I saw the post about using the FCB1010 and thought that it sounded great. Did think about that my level of understanding is at the bottom, but "how hard can it be"....

Well, I just got my FCB1010 today but I'm not even close getting it to work. I'm trying to read the manual and at the same time the manual for the Pa600 to understand what exactly I need to do to get this working. I need a instuction a la "Step 1,2,3,4 do like this" instruction if I'm going to understand this. And then I mean not only the DCB1010, also what I need to do on my Pa600. I know this is NOT the Pa600 section but I thought that the knowledge might be better for this stuff here and the global settings has to be the same.

I'm not even 100% sure how to connect the midi in/out in the 1010 and the pa600 and PC to 1010 and/or I also need PC to pa600 in some part...

I tried to just put any numbers in the PC Editor program and transfer it in the 1010. That didn't realy work either it just never stopped "transfering" the data....or there was none....or I did not do it right....or....

Well, you se my problem. I'm not realy expecting that much help but on the other hand I'm not sure what to do next.... :(

I found a "Idiot's Guide To The FCB1010". Maybe that will help... :)

This may or may not help but here goes:-

Firstly, decide what you want the FCB1010 to do - trust me, that's important otherwise you will end up wanting to change too many things when you've set it up.
Secondly, remember that several PA3X/PA600 functions will not work from this pedal as they are specific SYSEX messages (e.g. Ensemble/Bass Inversion) - you can usually get these working using an assignment pedal or EC5 (not suitable for PA600)

Thirdly, use the PA600 user guide MIDI to find and note down the CC values etc of all the functions you want to assign.
Download the free FCB1010 PC editor http://host.mtnsys.com:81/faq-fcb/PCEditorBeta.htm
Using the PC Editor is the easiest way to configure this pedal and also enables you to "save" your configurations (you can of course configure everything directly on the pedal but this takes some patience to get used to).
Connect your pedal to the PC and then start to configure the pedals.
Remember to "send" your changes back to the pedal and then you can test it out.

Just start with one pedal assignment and as soon as you get that working then you will fly through the others quite quickly.

I don't currently use my FCB1010 but plan to set it up again shortly.
I used to use mine to control UPPER 1 and UPPER 2 volumes (expression pedals 1 & 2)
and select STYLE elements and PERFORMANCES. At one stage I actually used one of the expression pedals to control the rotary speaker speed (not toggle, the actual speed)

PC:-
(FCB1010-MIDI-OUT to PC MIDI-IN & PC-MIDI-OUT to FCB1010-MIDI-IN)
Keyboard:
(FCB1010-MIDI-OUT to PA600-MIDI-IN)

Cheers

I must disagree. Checked it out and it works with Bass Inversion, and with Ensamble, and any non continous controller you can assign in GLOBAL-Controllers assignable pedal function list.

I tried to explain how to configure relay switches in this thread:

I think this FCB1010 controller is really useful with Pa3x.

Sorry - agree - that was a hang-over comment from my PA1XPro days when I used my FCB1010 the most - SORRY.
But there are some functions still that cannot be assigned to the FCB - Korg supplied a better larger list of CCs in the PA2XPro and PA3X manuals

Apologies for misleading anyone...

I just thought you might have a different version of FCB1010. It's common such devices change specs during their life time.
Mine was bought in March 2013, and has two relay switches (electric connectors, not MIDI controllers) that I can use with Pa3x, just like any other typical pedal.
Anyway, I found the FCB1010 user manual very unfriendly and difficult to understand. No wonder so many users have problems to set it up according to their needs.

Have to agree - it is an unfriendly piece of gear.
I did find the PC editor much nicer to use plus it enabled me to save all my settings in case the FCB internal battery ever fails.

Cheers
