how do i get my iphone5 to send MIDI clock data to my KP3+?

Post by tubbs »

i play in an electro band and we play to a backing track from my iphone5.

how do i send the MIDI clock information from the iphone to the KP3+ to sync the timing? (i'm tired of tapping in the tempo as i sing)

i'm assuming i need some app, an adapter and....?

also, how do i time stamp the mp3's/mp4's?

to summarize....
1) which app(s)?
2) which adaptor(s)?
3) how do i stamp midi clock data to sound files?

thanks a million!

First, the KP3 will only receive MIDI clock data, not stop / start etc.. If you are playing back an mp3 from your iPhone there will be no MIDI data sent - there is none present in the mp3 file. If the iPhone is connected to the KP3 the easiest thing to do is to use the auto BPM button. If you are just using it for vocal processing then just dial in the tempo. However, as you say, you need to know the tempo of the backing track - have a search through the Appstore for a BPM detection app (I don't have an iPhone / iPad so I can't give you a recommendation).

thanks for your reply!

i'm not using the KP3 for vocals at all, just for the tracks themselves.

i know the exact bpm's for all the tracks since i made them in FL Studio.

so is there any way at all to imbed the tracks with midi clock info?

if not with the mp3/mp4 format, maybe i can load the tracks in some other program/app that will allow midi clock?

Not that I'm aware of, but that doesn't mean it can't be done, or doesn't exist (maybe other more enlightened posters may know) - I've never needed to, I just dial in the tempo.

it's cause I'm lead singing and playing synth at the same time a lot and here and there I fiddle with the kp3.
it'd make it so much easier if it was clocked automatically.
the auto bpm often clocks the tempo either twice as fast as I want or half as slow. sometimes it's dead on but I don't like the live guesswork and beat correction duties

Yo can import you audio track in BeatMaker2 for playback with midi clock out.
You also need a midi connector like 'IRig MIDI'
