I Need Help Loading UK Bass Exp Pack AND Keeping My Patterns
Okay so I have both the UK bass expansion pack download AND all my original patterns saved on my smart media card. I went ahead and started deleting all the original patterns that were on my EMX to make room for the UK stuff. I have all of the empty slots in my EMX written down so I can just load each pattern one at a time from the SM card and save them to an empty slot.
The problem I'm having is whenever I try to do this it(the EMX) keeps assigning it to the A.01 slot which is already taken by one of my original patterns. What should I do here? Do I need to move all my original stuff to the last spaces in my EMX(It'd probably be all of the C and D banks at least) and THEN load up all the UK bass stuff at once?
If I do that will they start at A.01 and keep loading sequentially till it's done? Or should I move my original pattern from A.01 to another slot, THEN load the UK bass stuff one by one from A.01 and THEN move them to the empty slots I freed up? Thanks so much in advance. I really need help with this and I'm super excited about the new stuff but I cannot afford to lose all my work!

When you downloaded the bss pack it had the following instructions with it. It's the same as loading any emx bank.
It's no good trying to load a single pattern at a time .The machine first needs the preload data for the sounds. Just be sure to back up your treasures first !
1) Copy the downloaded file named “UKBASS” to the root directory of your memory card.
2) Press [GLOBAL], hold down [SHIFT] then press step key 13 (CARD), the LED will blink.
3) The parameter display will indicate “CardMenu”
4) The value display will indicate “Load”, press key 13.
5) The parameter display will change to “Load” and value to “All”, press key 13.
6) Select the file “UKBASS” using the value dial, press key 13.
7) The parameter display will ask for confirmation, turn the dial to change the value dial from “No” to “Yes. Press key 13 to execute.
When loading is complete the ELECTRIBE-MX will enter pattern mode with A01 selected.

Yeah like I said I already did that but the problem Im having is loading MY patterns after I've loaded the UK bass stuff. Again, I followed those instructions exactly and they worked BUT Im not able to load my patterns after the UK bass stuff because it saves my patterns on the EMX starting at A.01 as well. See what I'm saying? What Im asking is how can I load either the UK bass patterns OR my original patterns starting at a slot other than A.01? Also why is it so bad to load patterns one at a time?
Re: I Need Help Loading UK Bass Exp Pack AND Keeping My Patt
The new emx file will overwrite all the existing data. I havn't used the uk bass pack but according to those instructions, it's loaded just like all other emx files.TRAUMA wrote:Okay so I have both the UK bass expansion pack download AND all my original patterns saved on my smart media card. There's no need to delete patterns etc.. the uk bass pack will just overwrite all your existing stuff with the new bank. Your other stuff will be gone from the machine.
This part is a guess... Since the new bass pack is loaded with a different bank of sounds, i think that even if you can load a pattern from your older stuff, it will sound different now unless the bass pack also contains the original emx preload too. Does it ?
Any joy yet ?
I loaded one seingle pattern from the UK stuff and the rest of my patterns were still there and sounded the same. I wanted to know why it's bad to load them one at a time like Drhoo said because theres another thread relating to this where a guy said its fine to do though it's very time consuming. I guess Ill just have to nut up and do it the hard way.
Re: I Need Help Loading UK Bass Exp Pack AND Keeping My Patt
But aren't the (edited) sounds tied directly to each individual pattern? Unless I've misunderstood, the basic sound set is still there with the new UK Bass patterns - which would mean user patterns stay the same after a new set of patterns are loadedDrHoo wrote: This part is a guess... This is how internet "facts" get started. Whatever original patterns you have loaded in your EMX go unchanged. I'm about half way through loading the UK bass pack patterns one by one, choosing which ones I like and leaving the patterns with redundant sounds and all that out of my EMX and NONE of my original stuff has been altered in any way.
Like most of you I have a LOT of patterns laid out in sequence to be made into songs. Some of them use more patterns than others so I've got a lot of empty pattern slots scattered all over the place. Here's how I'm currently loading the UK bass expansion pack patterns to my EMX:
-First I saved all my patterns to a smart media card
-Than I copied that file to my laptop
-Then using the same SM card I downloaded the expansion pack to it from Korg's website
-Then I went through every pattern in my EMX, deleting ones I didnt want and I wrote down every single empty slot on a piece of paper.
-With the A.01 slot empty on my EMX I am going through every UK bass pattern one by one. They automatically save to the blank A.01 slot where I thern copy that pattern to another empty block, using the paper I have all the empty slots written down on as my guide so I don't accidentally write over one of my original patterns:

I hope that makes sense to yall. I'm about 1 hour into it and about 1/2 way done loading all the UK bass patterns I want. Like I said a lot of these UK bass patterns use almost identical sounds and the only big difference is the drum pattern itself so you don't actually NEED to load every single pattern to your EMX. If you do that you'll have a lot less room for your originals because there will be a bunch of slots taken up by sounds youve already got in another UK bass pattern.

I'm just a bit confused about all the pattern deleting & uploading at once. Why keep 'em all in one go ? I mean, just load a new bank & start from fresh. I you want something older then just load any pattern as you want it.
Not criticizing or anything, just curious. I use an esx 1 & when i have finished with my current pattern & song i back up the esx file & then clear it from the machine.
I don't keep any patterns or songs in the machine.
Is it so you can play a set
EDIT, just watched the video. So the uk bass pack then, it doesn't update oscillators or anything ? All you get is another bank of patterns & songs based on the same emx1 firmware right ? Seems like a lot a hassle to do this in that case when you can just write your own stuff. Isn't that what the electribe is for ?
