Screen Problem

Post by PraiseTheLord »

Tonight my Pa900 developed a screen problem: bad flickering and the screen is compressed from top to bottom because the header row is now repeated at the bottom. As a result if you want to select anything on the lower part of the screen you have to touch beneath it.

Also, and I had noticed this earlier, the brightness control does not seem to work.

I powered off and did a factory restore, but this did not improve the situation.

Here's a video that shows the problem http://youtu.be/4gjXdk7_6uc

It seems to sound OK, but as you can imagine I am nervous taking it out tomorrow!

Any ideas?

Have you tried recalibrating the display?

And - does the touch screen still work when touched?

Yes, that's the first thing you have to do after a factory reset.

The touch screen still works but, as I mentioned, you have to touch below where you normally would because of this problem.

Okay - So obviously the screen expects the touch in the right place even tho the display is compressed and out of frame.

You might try unplugging the keyboard for an hour or two from the mains as it only goes to standby mode when turned off by the switch.

This is a real bummer because Deane had troubles with his keyboard too and then sold it.

I'll try unplugging it over night.

That's looks like a vertical sync problem. Hopefully it is just a flaky connection. Take it back to your dealer.

I really like the Korg PA900 but am totally convinced there are some OS issues that Korg must address in the future. It is rare to experience hardware issues right out of the box but not unheard of. Yes, I have sold mine - but not due to any problems there were with it. What do they say, I got an offer I couldn't resist.

I don't think this has anything to do with the OS. Which is indeed improvable... I am sorry you have problems - probably you've been unlucky and got a faulty one.

I called Korg Product Support and they confirmed it sounded like a hardware problem. Since the product is so new they suggested that my dealer could swap it out as soon as he has his next shipment.

Fortunately, it sounds just fine, but the touch screen is unusable live! Let's hope this gets resolved soon!

I have to tell you, this keyboard OS is buggy and easily upset.

I have had to turn it off and the restart several times today just trying to record playing with a style into Cubase and then playing it back.

I'm still happy with it, but I've never had one so touchy as this one.

Well the details are that it crashes - no error messages nothing.

It even crashed Cubase 7 several times.

I'm talking the keyboard on two occasions turned off all style voices and left only the Upper1 making any sound and no button or touch screen touch responded. The keyboard was dead except for making sound with the keys for Upper1 voice. This when trying to play back a recorded style from Cubase to the keyboard. - Just turned it off and back on fixed it - this is an OS upset, just like a PC.

During the first week when I tried to record an MP3, it would not show the MP3 menu window when holding the Shift button while pressing the Record button - instead it would show the Style Record menu. This was fixed when I upgraded to the V101 OS.

The keyboard also crashed Cubase several times while trying to record a MIDI song from the keyboard to Cubase. I had to restart Cubase both times. I have no idea why it did that. I have been using Cubase full version and every upgrade for over 12 years and never had a keyboard by way of MIDI crash Cubase or the other way around either.

I did eventually get it all to work, but can not honestly say I am not convinced it will work the next time I try it.

I just got time to open my PA900 and found some problem too.
The touch screen does not work properly. Calibration did not help.
