Kronos and iPad 4

I just bought a new iPad 4th gen. I've never even touched one before but it is amazing!
I know some of you are using them with your Kronos'.
What kind of interfaces are you using? For audio and midi work?
Also, what else are you doing with the 2 of them?

You'll need the camera connection kit to use it with external midi/audio hardware. I think they call it Lightning to USB connector now.

I use the camera connection kit for direct USB.
Don't do a huge lot in conjunction with the Kronos but the Lemur app (or any kind of custom programmable midi controller) is cool. If you're interested, you can also play most popular iPad synths (Sunrizer, Alchemy, Waldorf Nave, etc) from the Kronos keyboard and have the audio come out of the Kronos outputs.

Qui I believe uses the Yamaha Synth arp/pattern app and Loopy for quick jamming.

It is called the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. I use one, plus a USB cable, to connect my iPad 4 to my Kronos. I use the MorphWiz and SampleWiz apps in live performances and the sound travels through the USB connection and out the audio outputs of the Kronos. Qui Robinez made a video tutorial about using an iPad with the Kronos. At the end of the video, he covers how to set it up.

Hi, QuiRobinez described a cool way to use Loopy HD with Kronos for instant looprecording:

one thing i use a lot on the ipad is Loopy HD where i can record up till 12 loops in realtime from the kronos ...... I use an Ipad 3 with the camera connection kit attached to the kronos and that runs well......
for the ipad you don't need any audio cables for loopy hd, but you need to use the 1/2 out on your kronos to hear the audio output from the ipad (the loops you recorded). This is nessecary because the L/R output is recorded from the kronos in the Ipad. Now if you route the Output of the Ipad to the L/R you would also record the output of the ipad which you don't want obviously

so here's how to set it up:
- connect the ipad to the Kronos
- press the global knob on the kronos
- go to the audio in tab and select 1/2 for USB 1 and USB 2 (panned left and right)
- now connect the Kronos L/R to your audio device and also the the 1/2 outputs to your audio device so that you can hear the merged sounds through your audio device.

That's all you need to do and the fun starts:

- Start Loopy HD on your ipad
- select a sound on your kronos you want to use for the loop
- Press one of the 12 recording buttons to start the loop recording
- play the loop
- then select a new sound on your kronos
- press the next recording button of loopy hd
- play the next part
- etc...

During your recording you will still hear the previous loop you recorded so it's just a matter of adding loops and playing along. Of course you can set any loop to it's own length.

After recording you can export your loops to your ipad or computer DAW, Email, or use them as a source for your sampler or even as oscs in apps like Nave synth. In that case press the share button of your loop and select audio copy and in Nave in the Wave screen press audio bm paste. Then you have created a custom oscillator for your new presets. For instance i use this to copy kronos sounds to nave to create new moving spectral sounds (which you can also use again in loopy hd in your loops if you use audiobus).

It's incredible how powerful an ipad is in a studio setup. Especially the kronos audio camera kit makes it extremely usefull. I'm using it all the time and is a fantastic expansion of the Kronos possibilities.

I like to use it to control the things I can't (or can't easily) from the Kronos control surface like changing drum tracks and DT volume, for example.
An app that allows sysex to be sent can really give you a lot of power. When this topic came up in the past I did a little proof of concept video on it:

I guess I med you all in the wrong direction. Ooops! By interface I meant for recording onto the iPad. I have the camera kit. I want to use it for recording live audio and midi. Essentially as a mobile recording studio. I have a bunch of decent mics, stands, and even a few tube pre-amps.
I was wondering if anybody here was doing that?

There aren't any apps in the store for controlling parameters on the Kronos, are there? If I could see my settings all laid out visually for me when I open combi's or programs, it would make it worlds easier to edit things on the Kronos.

I've had the idea for a Kronos Editor on the iPad; one which can open windows for a piano roll MIDI score editor for Karma, or basically any function you can think of which can be displayed and edited on the iPad. I have too many ideas to list now off the top of my head. I can do it later after I compile all my ideas. (How often do the Korg developers check these forums? Lol)

You don't need a specific editor. In fact except for the upfront work I prefer having something generic. You can assign CC and sysex the the things you want to control, the way you want to control them. It is pretty powerful.
