Volume Pedal Problems

Post by jayr »

I'm using a Korg EXP Expression pedal as a volume pedal on the Krome and can't seem to get it to work properly
It's connected up as per the manual/video tutorial with the "Global" commands all set to the relevant settings and saved, but it only works when I use the orange stereo cable that was supplied with the EXP pedal. When it does work it's all reversed with the pedal fully 'up' to mute the sound, pushing the pedal just slightly off 'up' and the Krome plays almost at full volume (as set by the Volume Knob). I've tried changing the polarity/different pedal setting in the "Global" menu to no avail and this is the only way I can get it to work.
I'm almost reduced to using the main volume knob to adjust but it's a pain to do whilst playing live!
Any ideas/suggestions?

I've just bought a Korg EXP2 (second hand).
It needs a stero jack.
You have to connect from keyboard to "out2" on the left side of the pedal.
In the right side there is a slider to set minimun volume but it doesn't work for me....perhaps because it works only if use "input1" or maybe broken....

http://www.korg.com/uploads/Support/EXP ... 500000.pdf

set the minimum volume would be important to me.
In fact, I would need to change the volume more slowly, but it's only the last part of the pedal that makes the difference and it is too short the ride.

Any ideas?

I really prefer the Yamaha FC7 pedal. Have used them for years on all my Korgs. Great expression pedal.

Thanks for the information. I have 2 EXP pedals (I use one for the Krome and one for my old Korg N364 whilst performing both as volume pedals) so I'll swap them round, see what happens.

Thanks for that SOS article. I can't stand the Roland pedals myself, I'll try resoldering one of my Yamaha FC7's for use with my Hammond XB!

 it only works if your synth needs a pedal with 50 kOhm linear

the mod itself is very easy
I done it on my FC7
On my modded FC 9 I used a 2 DPT switch to change polarity

contacts from the soldering side of the switch :
1 2
3 4
5 6

TRS cable goes to contact 3 and 4
cables to the outer contacts of the pot 5 and 6

and now connect 5 and 2
and also connect 6 and 1

overcross connection

Special mod:
the pot inside FC9 is a stereo pot wit 2x 3 pins
(=sparepart from Yamaha )
it should fit into the FC 7

with an extra TRS jack and soldering (if enough space in the FC7 ? )
the pedal can be used as a Double controller pedal
for 2 synths at the same time
