Kronos Aftertouch

Post by Jürgen »

Hello, first
Today has noted I must use only little strength to calibrieren of the aftertouch.
with my Kronos 61.Global Menü(min-max)
With my new Kronos x73 Rh3 keyboard I need for calibrating clearly more strength. If this is normal

Well, they are markedly different keybeds, one being that of a synth and the other trying to replicate the action of an accoustic piano. Does that help any?

I think you are trying to calibrate your aftertouch the wrong way. Calibration is used to adjust the keyboard to your needs, not vice versa.

During calibration, you don't have to push so hard that the blue bar reaches it's maximum - just press so hard that it feels right for you to have the maximum effect - then save.

Short version in german - I feel there is a little language barrier:

Beim Kalibrieren musst du nicht den blauen Balken bis zum Anschlag drücken. Drück einfach so fest, dass du meinst "hier hätte ich gerne das Maximum für meinen Aftertouch". Wenn du dann speicherst, ist es so, wie du es haben willst. Leichter oder schwerer...

Well, with my Kronos 88 X I have to press very hard for the calibration bar to even appear. And the calibration tool won't accept "low" key pressures as a maximum. Very uncomfortable to use it that way. Is there a solution for this, does it get better (=lighter) over time? I only have the Kronos for 3 days so far, and the keybed still feels a bit "stiff", like new RH3 keybeds often do.

Same here - but I have my Kronos nearly about a year.

I have also the impression that the aftertouch is "steppy" and not continuously gliding. I purchased my 88X to get a piano like keybed and piano keybeds usually don't provide aftertouch, AFAIK. So I was happy to have after touch at all. For more sensitive playing with aftertouch I retire to my Virus or Midi controller keyboard for both sport synth feeling. May be that we have to live with a compromise on the 88 X.

Had my 73 version for over a year and it feels near enough the same as it did on day one, with the exception that repeated playing has been part of the process of adapting naturally for overall feel etc.
I realise things do wear down or loosen up over time and perhaps the keybed may appear to play better later in its life…..or one has simply got used to it by then,or mixture of both.

Just some thoughts on stiff notes.
Have you checked that there is a gap between the white keys and the front bar ?
The keybed "may" have moved too close to it during transit and could foul the keys.

Regarding aftertouch, you could try the curve setting in the global page to see if it makes any difference to calibration attempts.

I am having similar problems with the aftertouch where excessive pressure is needed to make it work despite several attempts to calibrate including the suggestion I've just given.
Also having velocity problems as well, which will need to be repaired under warranty……sometime in the near future.
(For those who have read my previous posts where I've mentioned this before….yes,I am slow in getting it sorted…I will do so,one day…. :) ).
My situation may have a different cause, but I do hope yours is not due to the dreaded keyboard problem that some owners have had,if so,it will need further attention form a service centre under warranty.

Good Luck.

I already played around with the AT curve settings, but the root of the problem is, that the pressure needed for the Kronos to even register aftertouch is pretty high. Other than that, I have absolutely no problems with the keybed. The "stiff" feeling is already gone, and with that I didn't mean stiff or stuck keys, but just the feeling when the mechanical parts are not yet "used" to their movements. I've not checked the MIDI velocity values, but just from playing and listening I'd say that it works just fine, I really like it.

Grambambuli.
Thanks for your reply and the added info.
Pleased that the "stiffness" has now gone and you're liking the keyboard.
I also like mine as well, despite the problems I'm having, which mainly affects the piano voices, but remains playable etc.

I'm reluctant to arrange a repair as I would be so lost without something to play while it's away....
My plan is to buy a PA900 soon which will become a substitute for the duration (may only be a couple of weeks turnaround...??)and will provide the necessary learning
time with the new one.

As for the aftertouch problem....in my case I'm hoping the repair will improve things, but I can't provide any solutions to your situation.

Best Wishes......Enjoy !!
