TR or Triton Rack?

Post by tedluk »

Probably an obvious answer would be Triton, but I want to get a better idea of the differences.

I am primarily a piano player. I'm wedding whatever module I choose with a Yamaha S08. I really like the feel of that board, but I know the piano sounds are pretty weak.

Is there a huge difference in the piano sounds of the TR vs. The Triton rack? Will using some of the downloads available here help?

Thanks a lot for your input in advance!

Hello,

The Triton pianos are catastrophic. If you search a good piano in a rack, take a look at the Kurzweil modules, a Motif XS Rack or Roland Integra.

And if I compare a Triton with a Trinity, I prefer the Trinity, which has "something in it" (I still have a Trinity and I sold my 2 Tritons).

Thank you Xavier.

Which Kurzweil module? I've been looking at the K2000RS, but I see Micropianos going for next to nothing. Or should I save up for a newer module?

I should also point out that I do use other sounds, just that having a good piano sound is my top priority.

Thanks again.

If you need realistic sounds, better to look at some more modern rack like motif or integra.
If you wanna choose better Trinity and triton, i would go with Trinity .
Trinity has something in it's sounds you won't find in triton, tr or m3

Trinity different than TR?

Post by tedluk »

Kimu,

Are you saying that the trinity sounds different than the TR? I thought they used the same sounds.

And thank you for your input!

to my ears, yes they sound different. don't know if something has changed in the engine or in the FX algorithms or in DA converter, but trinity and triton sounds different.

imo, trinity sounds better, sounds are wider in the space, fills much more the room and have thier own character, there is more life in them.

kimu, when you say "TR", does it mean "Trinity Rack" or "Triton Rack" or the "TR" keyboard which is a Korg Extreme Light ?

Yeah, the problem is that there are two "KORG TR"
- The Trinity Rack
- The Triton Le Mk II (Triton Extreme Light)

OK, that helps. When I hear "TR" I think of the Trinity rack. And that DOES use the same sounds as the Trinity, correct?

For what it's worth, I bought a Kurzweil K2000R/S on ebay.

TR-Rack is the same as a bog-standard Trinity, but with an additional 8mb of raw waveform data taken from the 'best of' PBS-TRI expansion options. It's a shame you can't upload your own 8mb of data like the PBS, though, as well as being unable to install a Moss-TRI into a TR-Rack.

TR Rack wins hands down. I have owned both but still have the TR Rack. The pads are just awesome. The triton is a very good synth but just doesn't have the full bodied sound of the Trinity. I think the TR Rack sounds a lot like the Roland JD990 and that is a very good thing!
