ESX-1 MIDI out conflict

Post by piseh »

Hi guys,

Forum newbie here (hello!), and I am hoping to get some help with an issue.

I bought an iConnectMIDI2+ MIDI interface last week to link up my hardware and DAW, but i can't stop the ESX from feeding MIDI notes to the rest of the system.

I have a Korg ESX-1 sampler plugged into the MIDI in/out port #2 of the interface and a DSI Tetra synth plugged into the MIDI in/out port #1. The interface is plugged to my macbook via USB, I run Logic Express as my DAW, and I use a USB MIDI keyboard Set to channel 1 to feed the DSI Tetra.

I have set DSI Tetra to send/receive on Midi channel 1, and the ESX to send/receive on Midi channels 2, 3 and 10. These settings are matched in the Logic Environment and in the Mac MIDI setup.

The issue I can't resolve is that whenever the ESX-1 is running a sequence, either fed by a Logic midi region or via its internal sequencer, it sends note on/off messages to the DSI Tetra too, even though the two machines are set to send/receive on different channels. The same happens regardless of how i set the ESX clock (internal/external/auto).

For some reason, the same does not happen with the synth, i.e. whenever the DSI Tetra plays notes either from a Logic Midi region or via keyboard input, no note on/off is passed on to the ESX-1.

This is not how I intended the setup to work. I would like the input/output of the two machines to be completely independent, so that I can record synth sequences to Logic on channel 1 while the sampler sends/receives midi data on channel 10. I do not want the ESX to feed input notes to the Tetra.

Am I missing something? Can somebody please help me? thank you a lot!

Sounds like you need to set your preferences in the esx1 midi filter. It's all in the manual under 'midi filter' 8)

Midi Channel 10 is reserved for drums.
I'm not sure, if this programm would help you in any way, but you might give it a try (depends if that Midi interface is recognized or not):
