This thing looks amazing. Can you advance song lyrics from a button on the Kronos? I just thinking that if I'm using a camera kit to my iPad I might be able to pre-assign a button on my Kronos to advance lyrics to the next verse.

There is also the iConnectMidi 4 which is due out any day now that allows you to connect computer and iPad and Kronos, etc, via USB and it charges the iPad while allowing audio passthrough.

I have mine preordered through Sweetwater.

Pretty cool device.

I don't think so, but it can autoscroll documents/lyrics if you set the song duration.

Yes you can

The remote control settings for SLM allow actions to be triggered by Midi General Purpose Button messages or Midi Note.

You can change the document, scroll it, play a track, record, move up/down the setlist.

You can also autoscroll.

Its a pretty good app, but I'm sticking with the Kronos's set list functions

Thought I would post a response to this old thread because I found out what the problem was in the first place. I bought a third-party lightning cable because the one supplied with the iPad for is so darn short. It was the third-party cable that caused the kronos to crash as soon as it was plugged in. I understand there is no useful purpose in the first place to use the iPad as a slave device.
Side Note: I read somewhere that Apple has installed a special chip in each of their lightning cables. If you plug a third-party lightning cable into your iPad a little message comes up that says the cable is not fully compatible.

Good to know.

If anyone is using Setlist Maker and wants to add midi control of patches, here is some useful info;
To change the mode from your DAW (or in this case Setlist Maker), insert one of these sysex parameters:
For SetList: F0 42 30 68 4E 09 F7
For Combi mode: F0 42 30 68 4E 00 F7
For Program mode: F0 42 30 68 4E 02 F7
For Sequence mode: F0 42 30 68 4E 04 F7
For Sampling mode: F0 42 30 68 4E 06 F7
Note: these are zeros, not the letter O

You set this into the "Raw midi" field of your midi preset. Make sure to add a 1 second delay and to set the raw midi to be sent BEFORE the Program/Bank select (that's somewhere in the general settings I think). This makes it possible to select ANY patch on your Kronos, no matter if it's in setlist, program or combi mode. If you link midi presets to your songs, reorganizing a setlist in the app is a ton quicker than doing it on the Kronos. I still use the Kronos setlist for fixed medleys and the like where I have more than two or three patches to use. I use Setlist Maker to land me on the first one.

The only real issue I feel is that I'm starting to depend on a LOT of tech to get me through the gig :)
The idea of "just the Kronos" has long been replaced by "and a Nanopad, and a Ventilator, and a mic, and a mixer, and an iPad".

Sander, I know exactly what you mean. I was hoping to gig with just the smallest amount o f gear but that is quickly going by the wayside. So far I'm up up to my Kronos, 2 guitars, a mic and stand, amp and cabinet. Now I'm adding my iPad and it looks like I'm going to be adding a second keyboard.

Are you using midi or the USB to connect your iPad and the rest?

Another thing is, since a lot of my songs use several slots on the Kronos" set-list, I guess I need to do that with set-list maker as well.

I got rid of my Focusrite Scarlett but now I'm thinking that maybe I should have kept it and I was just using it wrong. Don't know. I'm kind of waiting to see a serious interface that uses the Lightning connector.

If you only use a few sounds per song you can easily doing it from Setlist Maker. It's just that the midi preset buttons are kinda small so having more than a couple on your screen for each song is kinda pointless as you have the Kronos' big screen right there. It's useful for me to only have to click once to get the right tempo, any notes or sheet music, and my initial patch for that song. I figure in the near future, I'll just keep the medleys in the setlist and start doing the rest from the iPad. If I don't need a bunch of new sounds and combis, I can lie back on the couch with my iPad and prep all my sounds right from there :)

I was just lurking on the Auciobus Forum and it seems that most everyone there is looking for a good interface for their iPad. Alesis is coming out with a docking station for the iPad 4 that uses teh Lightning connector but since it doesn't have MIDI it just seems like a waste to me.

Had anyone hear yet seen or heard of good interface that had multiple inputs; 8 hopefully; plus midi and; cross your fingers!; 2 headphone outs?

The RME stuff is iPad compatible. They're top notch interfaces, I don't know why you'd want to waste that kind of serious gear on an iPad but consider the specs you're looking for, they fit the bill.

It basically came down to space considerations, portability, and usefulness. My studio is jam packed full and I would be hard pressed to find room for a computer. The iPad just seemed to fit the bill for me and my wife. Plus it can more easily travel with us.
I looked at the RME stuff but I think it's quite a bit over the budget. I did have a Focusrite Scarlett i818 but returned it for a couple of reasons.

I know exactly what I want but I think it hasn't been invented yet!
