Well tried to purchase a couple of styles, but the program doesn't work.

Went to check out - entered my information, but when taken to the next page, it requires me to register a keyboard and none of those offered is my model.

And besides, I already registered my keyboard with Korg.

CRAP!

Well went back and tried again - it worked, but doesn't indicate a secure site.

I went ahead and purchased a couple of styles, the Cool Country is very good, but don't like the Last Ballad one much.

Is this ME - really whinging?

So has Korg hired an ex-Yamaha PSR/Tyros marketing guy?

For years we have not had to pay for any Korg styles - this is now reminiscent of my PSR/Tyros days
Can't say I was over impressed with the styles at $7 each.
Are they actually created by Korg or 3rd party I wonder?

I am not suggesting that we should get everything for free - but I have been SO spoiled so far.....

Cannot see myself buying these at this stage.

Pete,

I agree that I've been spoiled by the many free styles on the Yamaha side, but I don't mind paying for really good styles and sounds.

Only I'm not so sure that I can reliably purchase many of the styles I've seen for sale as either the demos are poor or none to be heard and there is not much on any of the forums regarding reviews by those who have them.

I did purchase a couple of the styles offered on the new shop and particularly like the Cool country style - even after loading it into my keyboard.

The Last Ballad is a dud though and I can't recommend it.

So far, the only for sale styles I've purchased that I can recommend are those sold on e-Bay by sputnik777 - I would get those for the Christmas styles at least as they are the best I've found.

Is it just me who thinks this sounds old,
Seriously what are they with, This sounds so old, and they call these styles of RNB and more.
I think I'm doing much better and has shared desse for many years.
Then comes an old man and asking for money for them.
I laugh like an idiot.
for 10 years, I have created style files and samples, I learn better with each year. There seems KORG stop in time.
There is much cleverer style programmers, which would give more to KORG.

Yes Billy - that's clearly very limited to the Etta James song "At Last" but the intro and ending are not authentic enough and if they were then it's $7 for one song.

I guess we all have different needs but I can never see the point in having a style to authentically play a specific song (cover).
I find the Korg styles absolutely brilliant and I focus on covers but always with my own arrangements.
On the very odd occasion that I want to have a truly authentic backing for a song, I use MIDI files - that's what they are for!!

I bought some of Yamaha's Tyros styles a while back and to be honest they were all so basic and repetitive - another reason I sold the Tyros and PSR-s910.
I didn't ever find many "free" styles for the Yam and the ones I did find were unusable for me - but then again, many of the Tyros factory styles were also unusable.
Korgs style structure and flexibility is way ahead with the CVs and elements (sorry - don't get me started!! ).

I hope Korg don't go down the same path with regard to these "online-shopping" styles. The style demos on their site that I have listened to so far haven't disturbed my credit card at all.

Oh well!!

Still haven't fully examined the 2,000 quality Korg styles I already have!!!

Cheers

Pete,

I truly never did get on to making styles for the Yammies.

But I have to agree with you the Korg style format is so much better and easier to work with.

The use of the CV feature effectively gives you 24 variations instead of just the 4 regular ones and - making guitar parts for the styles is also tops.

I'm still a newb on the Pa, but can readily see the advantages of this keyboard.

Just had a listen to the 'country' styles. Stodgy, lifeless, weak, just some of the adjectives that come to mind. Country is big around here, but there's no way would I use any of these latest offerings. As Pete said, a couple of them are way too song-specific. Even the hokey little sentences on the links are a dead giveaway.

If this is a glimpse into the futue of stylemaking at Korg, then I'm fearing for the worst. The order for these must have been farmed out to a third-party stylemaker. On this showing if I were Korg, I'd pull that contract pretty quick, before any further damage is done and get someone who knows what they're doing.

I'm going to check out some of the other style groupings now, but I'm not holding out too much hope. Wish me luck.

Have to agree - next we'll have an RJ45 port in the keyboard so we can directly connect to the Korg Styles&Sound Shop - I smell Tyros looming.
Sorry, but this is a backward step IMHO.

If Korg want to stay on top, then please don't SELL us poor-to-average quality styles like Yamaha - stay ahead of the game.

Seems like a cheap money making exercise to me - disappointing.....

Although Pete, if they ARE very good, I have no real problem with $7, after all once you have it you get years of use out of it.

I am miffed as they are not going to provide anything similar for PA2 and PA1 users.

Yep - I would be OK with that but so far, not good (it's that little word "if") and it seems to me that they are focusing on styles for specific songs - totally ridiculous for a Pro arranger - fine for those "around-the-fire" family singalongs though

Agreed, I happily pony up $7 or more for decent, workable content. Wallet stays closed on this lot.

Anyway, just went through my other primary interest, the R&B group. No improvement over the Country set.

Note to Korg: You have the same track playing on both 50's Soul and 70's Soul. I'd buy you a Starbucks, but I doubt it would do any good.
