Wondering if anyone has setup karma to work just as a simple percussionist playing cajon or djembe maybe with shakers and tambourine thrown in.
If so, any tips or resources on setting up combi's to do this.

Yes to all of the instruments you list. What exactly are you looking for as far as tips?nashmatt wrote:Wondering if anyone has setup karma to work just as a simple percussionist playing cajon or djembe maybe with shakers and tambourine thrown in.

Hi! Thanks so much for responding!
I am very new to using Karma, but very familiar with Korg Workstations and their architecture and I am very comfortable editing Combi parameters for layering and key zones. I am having trouble figuring out assembling a Combi that uses Karma to provide perc tracks. I would be using mainly just a Piano timbre (maybe some piano and pad stuff too that I've already setup.) along with the perc.
I'd like to have it so I can use the scenes and other controlled parameters to play patterns using cajon, shaker, and Tamb. Of course I want to be able to switch things up while playing. For example, pressing a scene so that tamborine comes in on 2 and 4 during a chorus and then using another scene to have the tambourine go to 16ths with accents on 2 and 4. Same idea with cajon or djembe varying what the pattern is doing during the course of a song.
most of my questions revolve around setting up the module(s) to work. I know a "perc" module has to be set to "drum" and you must load a GE.
1. Are there certain other parameters you can clue me in to that i should pay particular attention to achieve the above?
2. I realize i may need to edit the drum kit I want to use, but can the pre-installed GE's be used to get my desired effect?
3. My plan is to also utilize the "drum track" for a 16th's shaker so i can easily add or remove that at my discretion.
My desire is to use this for worship when we don't have a percussionist. I have setup sequences several times. It is time consuming and then we all have to make sure we're right on with it. Just doesn't provide much flexibility. Of course figuring this out would really make creating sequences go quicker if I have a desire to do so. I myself am also a drummer/percussionist so I have insight in to how all that works - it also means I'm picky about what the percussion player does.
Sorry to go on and on. hopefully there is some direction or insights you can share.

I think you should be able to accomplish what you want.
You have 4 Karma modules available so you could set one to your cajon, shaker, tamborine and even add one more.
You will have to experiment with the GE's to see if they will work for you and if you need to change any of the parameters to get just what you want.
For example if you found a pattern that works "as is" for verses. You can probably change the RTC or alter them to get what you need for the chorus. Then save that as a scene. The other option is to have the RTC set in such a way that the extremes give you those two settings - ie slider full down is verse, slider full up is chorus - and you can use some intermediate slider location to give things some different feels.
If you can't do it directly like that you could use different modules to have the different patterns on the same timbre and have the modules turned on and off as needed.
Hope that makes some sense. Kind of hard to "map it out" in a post like this. Good luck!
