Kronos shows all my usb sticks as empty

Post by hightower »

Hi guys,

I'm trying to update to version 2.1.0. Updated the firmware already. But it shows al mu USB sticks as empty(Sticks I have previously used). My external HDD is fine. I can read the contents, but the updater doesn't find the update on it. Maybe too many files on it?(8000+)

Problem is, how can i update? seems impossible now, does this have anything to do with updating the firmware first?

Oh, of course I formatted the stick. Even installed a windows machine to format under windows.

Better to format it on the Kronos. Windows also has a couple of file formats the Kronos doesn't recognize.

Ah, forgot to mention. Tried that already :) Of course. It's really strange, because it only happens with flash media.

Oh stupid thing: When formatting with kronos and then copying a file to it. it says No space available on Medium

Hmmz, and a kronos formatted medium is unreadable on my computer. What's happening here?

That does sound like a formatting issue. Very strange if you formatted on the Kronos. I haven't needed this myself, but aren't there two different formatting options when you format from the Kronos? FAT16 and 32? Do they both give the problem?

OK, formatted in FAT16. Now I can read and write to it on my computer.

Rebooted the kronos with the stick connected, because it was showing the old content again :S

I can read the stick now, but the updater doesn't find the update :(

Pff, I give up now. retried with another stick. Booted the kronos with that stick in it. Guess what. it sees the content of the other stick, before I formatted it.

Ha, I wish. Can't move on because nothing works. Previous updates worked flawless BTW. This one is a disaster.

Well you have to be Fat32 for the update to work. So you kind of went in the wrong direction. Reformat on the Kronos to that.

Oh, finally. It worked. I tried something weird. I used a usb to microsd converter. Formatted it fat16 on the kronos. And tada, the update was found and installed correctly.

No idea why this was so difficult. I'm an IT support guy, but why the other sticks and usb hdd didn't work. I don't know. Have seen a lot of strange behaviour, but this one is the weirdest.

I had to choose fat16, because a fat32 kronos formatted volume appears to be unmountable on an OSX machine :S

Nope - not only can you mount it on OSX you can format it to fat32

Kronos fat 32 work fine on my rMBP. I did do a full format though, be aware it takes a long time, even a thumb drive I had that previously wouldn't work, now works after doing a full format.

That's how it should work. And I have seen it work. Even with the same Kronos, same iMac and same USB stick.
This time it didn't work. Perhaps a weird problem with OS2.0.6???

I have seen some posts about different usb sticks working and not. Don't know why that is. I just didn't want people thinking OSX could not handle FAT32. Glad you came up with something that worked for you.
