Maybe a bit of a dumb question but would it be possible to do update direct from a laptop via usb?

I think he doesn't mean the firmware update but the OS one. In which case I believe no.

It's all the new updates that I want to install over version 2.06.
I'm trying to get a heads up on the situation before I attempt anything after 2 forthcoming gigs. I was just wondering whether or not the Kronos will recognize my laptop as a drive

You must use the pc for the firmware update, the os update should be done with a usb drive.
