Playing VSTs in Cubase with a Kronos
Having spent many happy hours over the last few months getting to know the basics of the Kronos, I thought I now ought to learn a bit more about Cubase 7 (Artist) and one of the things I'd like to learn how to do is get the Kronos to play all the VSTs included in Cubase.
I have just about worked out how to set up a VST and assign something like Sonic SE to produce the sounds (and I can press the mouse on the graphic keyboard display to hear the sounds) - then I select the Kronos as the input and the Sonic SE as the output - but the Kronos keeps playing what is assigned to that midi channel within the Kronos (German Grand) and doesn't play the Sonic SE sound...
Can anyone help me get this aspect to work? As my laptop has many gigs of data used up with these VST sounds, it would be nice to be able to play them through the Kronos keyboard.

Have you installed Kronos MIDI driver on your PC?
If you have then you should be able to choose KRONOS 1 KEYBORAD in Cubase and then you can play the sounds from Sonic SE.
But you have to turn off "Local control on" on your Kronos under "GLOBAL" and "MIDI".
Otherwise you hear both German Grand from KRONOS and the sound from Sonic SE at the same time.

You need to link to the actual image directly. In Chrome at least, you can right click and get 'copy image url'. Another alternative is some browsers have 'open image in new tab', then copy the URL from the address bar.
Then paste like so:
Code: Select all

fixed - I think
Just to update this in case anyone has the same problem in the future - it turns out I needed to have midi through enabled in Cubase.
This enabled the Kronos to play the VST instruments, but cause both internal and external instruments to play. Turning local control off on Kronos would solve this but then the control surface sliders don't work any more, so I think the way to fix it is to go into the midi channels you want to play the VST instruments through and set them from 'both' to 'external' which stops them playing. However you get double sounds on the other midi channels as they echo back into Kronos.... so you set (say) midi 1 to external and then keep the Kronos on midi 1, and change midi tracks with Cubase, which now changes sounds on Kronos and avoids double sounds, but keeps local control 'on'
Seems to work at the moment!

Yeah, I think you're right - the way I'm doing it, I'm getting multiple sliders moving when I'm only moving one, and stuff like that.
Unfortunately turning off local control is not an option as the control surface on the Kronos no longer works. So that means I can't play the VSTs in Cubase and have everything else working.
It did give me a chance to audition some of the VST sounds and they're ok, but not even close to the quality of the Kronos patches, so I guess I'm not missing much.

You shouldn't need to turn on MIDI through (nor turn off Local Control in that case) though. So I'd suggest you're doing something else wrong with the routing of input to VST.

Do you perhaps need to hit record arm or monitor (I think these functions can be unlinked) for the plugin track you want to play in cubase?
