I bought a Roland VP7
I have 2 KORG Triton Studios, neither will drive the VP7 voice processor, the midi led on the VP7 shows no activity. (I'm not new to MIDI) The channel settings are correct.
A Yamaha DX WILL drive the VP7.
The DX will also play my EMU piano module. (CH 1)
Both korgs WILL also play the same EMU module. (Shows channel settings are correct to ch. 1)
If the DX will play both, why will the Studio play one but not the other? What is different about the midi message from the Studios that won't drive the VP7? I've tried 'omni' settings, switched wires, and everything else I can imagine. The whole thing doesn't make sense. Any ideas?

Tom,
What mode are you in - program, combi, seq?
I had an Alesis with a similar problem, only sent program changes when on the user bank.
You might want to look at whether the Roland is set up to receive program changes; I could see where it might not work if the program change message from the korg put it beyond its normal program range (i.e., asking the Roland to go to bank D when it can't because it's not there so it shuts down rather than playing "in error"). On, the other hand if that we're the problem I'd expect to see it work at least part of the time in the A bank or perhaps when specifying GM voice locations.
Check the MIDI filter settings in the Global Manu as well as there may be something set up that interferes with "normal" MIDI flow.

The VP7 has almost no user settings. Its omni or channel 1. I haven't gotten into its's few voice changes via midi. I have it set up now and I midi'd the emu module and the vp7. I restored the vp7's factory default settings. I checked the studio's midi settings again. I'm just playing the "A" combination "000" piano to test, but have tried program sounds too. The issue remains the same; the emu plays fine but there's no midi signal reaching the vp7 (there's a red led data lite NOT flashing)

Isolated problem with technology, solution will be more elusive. I scoped Korg's MIDI data output stream. DC is 2 volts, data is 1.5 volts peak to peak. The standard midi stream is on a 5 volt supply with data stream about 4.5 peak to peak volts. I used oscilloscope and Triplett meter to troubleshoot. So how does one communicate with Korg, or even hope they will address the problem?. I photographed the scope & meter readings to present if necessary. I was given a Korg number and hours (starts 1 PM EST) by my keyboard source and wished good luck. 631-390-8737
