Trouble with the sound

Post by mtjoh »

I bought my Korg Sv-1 76 Bk i august 2012 and have been very happy with it. But lately it has begun to behave strangely. The rhodes sound has started to sound like I'm playing in a big hall(I have checked the reverb button on the piano, and it's off), but when I change sound to a pianosound it's back to normal. Anyone with the same problem?

don't know.

when the compressor is used, any built-in reverb is more present. i notice this with layered rhodes patches (i use rhodes with pad patches a lot... often with compression for greater percussive attack; when i do this any reverb/delay that Korg built-in to the 2nd layer becomes noticeably louder.

but that doesn't sound like your problem.

Do you have MIDI connections enabled?

I had some similar-sounding artifacts when there was a MIDI loop, causing each note to trigger twice.

Although that wouldn't clear by changing to a piano preset (although it might be less noticeable).

No midi.. Could it be something wrong with the tube? It looks like it's working and it's glowing as usual, but is that a possibility?

tube is for amp'ed sound, doesn't affect the reverb.

is it all your Rhodes patches or just one of them?

have you tried using the XLR outs instead of the 1/4"?
dont' know why that would make a difference... then again i don't know why only some patches would have added reverb, so maybe should be checked.

have you loaded the patch editor software and checked the problem from there? there are extra settings (none of which should make a difference to the problem you describe, but can't think of anything else to try)

also suggest you contact Korg and speak to someone; they should be able to say if this is a known problem.

as binky says, the tube is only used when the Amp Modelling is turned on.

Piano presets don't (generally) use the Amp Modelling, whereas many of the Rhodes presets do.

So, if you turn of the amp modelling, does the sound go back to normal? If it does, then that suggests the tube (or the amp modelling in general) may be the cause of the problem. If it doesn't, then you tube is in the clear.

Hi mtjoh,
I have had the big hall problem twice. I never had experienced this before. After the gigs I realized that in both cases I did not use my own amplifiers but I plugged in xlr on a PA system that I was not familiar with.

Since then I always use the 1/4” connectors. Never had that problem again.

It seems that XLR does not only pick up your audio signal, it also can deliver a signal with unwanted results. A software failure or just bad luck?

Apart from this I am very happy with my SV-1.
