SV1 88: Phaser 2 "Intensity" Problem

Post by coloradobenedic »

Hey all,

Been loving my SV1, but just discovered a little issue that I'm not sure how I should address...

While playing my SV1 just now and messing around with some FX, I switched over to Phaser 2 on the Modulation bank and found that my Intensity Dial would only switch between the "0" setting and the "10" setting visually - nothing in between. But sonically, it seemed to only be switching from "0" to "1" or maybe "1" to "2" - ie, when it visually says "10", it doesn't sound like a super heavy phase...

Tried restarting the keyboard a couple times and playing around, and it seems to only affect this parameter. So - not the end of the world, but any ideas what's going on? All the other controls seem to work fine and the Phaser 2 issue is consistent regardless of the "instrument" (Rhodes, Wurly, AP, etc.) it is applied to...

Anyone?

Phaser settings likely reflecting some classic unit

Post by Ignatius_Gerumpany »

Not sure, but some of the settings reflect the behavior of classic stomp pedals and out board units. If that classic unit only has two settings, the dial will act the way you describe.

Use the Phaser 2 on different key boards and see if it changes. Also, have a look at the manual to see if it tells you which unit the phaser is imitating.

There are other effects that behave the same way. I am away from my key board, or I would find them for you.

yeah, I think for phaser2 intensity knob works as type selector switch (thus only 2 settings).

Phaser 2 is emulating an Electro-Harmonix Small Stone phaser; very popular in the 70's... had a small switch for adjusting the frequency modulation (color) and a knob for controlling speed (rate).

Oh... duh  Thanks guys! I checked the manual and confirmed it as well, it just seemed odd to me for some reason... which is even funnier because I keep a Small Stone on my guitar board...
