How Do You Control KARMA With A Pedal?
I am really liking Karma! The diversity and flexibility it offers is awesome! With a little practice and patience, I have tweaked a whole bunch of KARMA equipped Combis.
Question: How can I Start and Stop and then re-Start KARMA - using a switch pedal? Right now I'm reaching over with my left hand and simultaneously depressing these KARMA buttons:
On/Off
Latch
Drum Track
These three keys must be pressed simultaneously to enable the KARMA program; then to suspend KARMA during breaks in the music, and then again to stop KARMA, at the end the song.
To automate this function - using a switch pedal, I'm assuming that I need to alter something in the KARMA or KARMA GE tab pages of the Combination display. Right??
I appreciate your input.
Thanks.

Love my Kronos 73. Got it October 2011. March 2016 bought SpaceStation v.3 and Behringer Sub-Woofer.

Kronos comes set up for this. In the global settings you can set a foot switch to KARMA ON/OFF.latnjazfan wrote:I am really liking Karma! The diversity and flexibility it offers is awesome! With a little practice and patience, I have tweaked a whole bunch of KARMA equipped Combis.

I think you are probably pushing more than you need to. Try just doing KARMA ON/OFF - it will turn it off no matter how latch is set.
Then in you Karma setup, link the drum track. Everything will be in sync and controlled by your foot switch.

I'm glad you are liking it. Thanks for the nice words.
As per ed_f: You don't need to touch the Latch switch, if you turn KARMA On/Off. If you turn KARMA off, the latch setting doesn't matter. Also, unless the Drum Track is playing, you don't need to turn DT off either.
If you use the Link To DT setting for each Module, you can control KARMA On/Off and DT on/off at the same time from the DT switch. One button does it all.

what about ' Foot Switch Assign under P2/Controllers ?ed_f wrote:Kronos comes set up for this. What would you recommend to Mike for maximum control of Karma ?
Re: How Do You Control KARMA With A Pedal?
1. Yes that is the exact assignment I was suggesting - and doing that and linking as Stephen and I pointed out, a foot switch can turn everything on and off.GregC wrote: what about ' Foot Switch Assign under P2/Controllers ?

2. If you are asking what can be done beyond a foot switch to turn KARMA on/off?
I use a behringer fcb1010. Don't know if it maximizes Karma (would need something I could send sysex with for that) but gives me a lot of control for example on on patch I can:
1. turn karma on and off
2 switch between the 8 scenes
But I have other patches that do might turn voices off and on or change other parameters.
KARMA is super flexible if you can send it the right commands.

I would like to avoid adding the FCB1010 to get midi control, etc, etc.
This is what I am currently doing;
I turn off the Drum Track button. The Drum rhythms in the Karma scenes work better for my intros, fills, etc
I assign my " Foot Switch " to the ' Karma Scene ". Then I can pedal thru the 8 Karma scenes for variation.
But with this, there are some " scenes " i want to remove or mute. IOW, I don't want to mess around, pedaling thru unwanted scenes. Lets say I have settled on 3 " Karma Scenes " for my tune.
So within my Combi, how do I programatically remove or mute the 5 unwanted Karma Scenes ?
I think this is what Mike was also getting to.
Thanks !
Re: How Do You Control KARMA With A Pedal?
Well since you are cycling through I think your best bet is to set them up in an order that works for you. No way to remove/mute really. So I would suggest if for example if you like scenes 1,4,7 that you just move them so that they are 1,2,3 so you can pedal through.GregC wrote:ed_f wrote:1. I think thats the best strategy within a particular combi.ed_f wrote:Well since you are cycling through I think your best bet is to set them up in an order that works for you. I now see in " Karma GE" the drop down menu, i can copy scenes, swap scenes as i please.
This gets me going in the right direction, thanks

Re: How Do You Control KARMA With A Pedal?
Yeah, with cycling you are going to go through all 8 no matter what. However, with a programmable foot pedal, you can individually access each scene, so you could only access the scenes you wanted.I think thats the best strategy within a particular combi.Well since you are cycling through I think your best bet is to set them up in an order that works for you. Going off topic. Stephen, I have admired your work for some time with Korg.StephenKay wrote:Yeah, with cycling you are going to go through all 8 no matter what. for example, this is an excellent demo/ production of Karma on the M3.

I have always wanted to hear how you implemented songs or your jamming ideas with the various combis plus the Karma scenes.
Are you the man behind the scenes with any of Kronos ( some were originally OASYS ?) combis ?
If so, it would be inspiring to see how you put the Kronos combis plus Karma scenes to work in a song or in a ' jam ' context. I am sure your ideas are far better than anything I can come up with

Thank you !
