Holding keys/tones when Switching Programs

Post by tkvoice »

Hi I just recently purchased a Korg M50 and I am wondering if there is a parameter I can set to get the Korg to switch programs like my other keyboard as I have got into the habit of how it works.

My currently keyboard holds the initial Program/Tone until the keys are lifted and does not cut off the keyboard output as soon as a new program is loaded. In this manner:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Load Tone1/Program1
play the part and hold a chord down.
Load Tone2/Program2
The keyboard is still playing the Tone1/Program1 chord until I lift the keys. (In fact if I make a mistake I can load in another program without affecting the keyboard output just as long as I don't release the keys playing the original Tone1/Program1 sound)
Once I release the keys then the keyboard plays the tone for the new program that has been loaded in (for any subsequent keys pressed). I can even just keep the original tone going by holding chord and play new notes with new tone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there a way to get the M50 to operate this way? As it is now the M50 keyboard instantly stops any output as soon as a new program is loaded (holding a chord or key down while loading a new program the notes held down are cut off instantly)

Hopefully I can change the way this works as this will take a lot more synchronizing during live performance that will not allow for any error in program choice.

Switching some programs (synth)

Post by tkvoice »

I am learning....
Some programs when switched go straight into the new tone when keys are held down during program switching. (like the slow snth tones) in Program Mode

So there has to be a parameter somewhere that can be set so the output does not get cut off when switching in Combi Mode. As I followed a youtube video by Korg that showed me how to use the User Combi setting to move between programs quickly but this cutting off of the keyboard output abruptly is not desirable.

Combi switching cuts off output

Post by tkvoice »

I found a thread here:
M50 Seamless switching between instrument sounds?
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=63416
This thread gives some more ideas but basically the answer is the same.

You can only get seamless switching when switching between "programs" and switching between "combi" setups cuts off the sound.

This is really bad for live performance as with only 61 keys I need the whole keyboard for parts (can't afford to have a key split with other tones set up waiting to get played)

For example take Styx-Come Sail Away

The first part of the song I want piano for the entire 61 keys
then I want to switch into a split synthesizer mode:
Left hand has poly synth and Right hand has a flute synth with tons of echo/delay. I can't just load a "program" in I need to load a "Combi".

I have a cheap CASIO WK-6500 that can achieve this type of switching seamlessly. I just can't believe KORG would build a keyboard that can't do this without using some external MIDI controller pedal. What's up with that?
