Want a Volume/Expression Pedal. What will work?
So, I'm looking to get a pedal to control stuff. I've heard good things about the Ernie Ball VP Jr. Would that be a good one? Any recommendations?

For a stand alone Vol/Exp pedal I would suggest looking at a stereo one at the very least, with its obvious benefits, Stereo in/out, foot controlled left/right panning, resonance sweeps etc.
The cost varies so much on them that you could end up paying more for one than you would for a multi FX unit with an EXp pedal on the end, and with one of those you would then get some extra FX to boot

But the R3 has a separate pedal input. Wouldn't that be unrelated to whether or not the pedal is stereo? I'm just looking for something I can use and reassign in there. What would I need? And would it be a solid idea to maybe get a separate volume pedal that runs through the input? Or should I just get one pedal and reassign it later. One day, I'll get an effects processor, but not right now.

Ah, you never stated it was for an R3, in that case any vol/exp pedal will do the job to a certain degree and just program the R3 to make the pedal do what you want:-)

Typically a Volume pedal is one that you run the output through in order to alter the volume after it has left the synth. I'm not sure if they are commonly available in stereo.
An expression pedal is the one that you will be able to connect to the Exp. Pedal socket to control various parameters as you see fit.
Some pedals incorporate functionality of both. Usually they would have a separate jack or socket for each kind of operation.
