I would gladly give up EP-1 and CX-3 for granular/additive

I had some responses, but edited them out.

To have some signifier of how important I would consider the feature if it was actually implemented in some future workstation.

Regardless of genre of music, there is a huge market for EP and Clonewheel - look at all the keyboards out there dedicated specifically to those sounds. How many modern additive hardware synths are out there? They have to make a decision as to what will fit the largest market.

That said, this is timely because I just posted recently on another forum that I've always been interested in additive and almost pulled the trigger on a used K5000 several times. However, it seems to me that these days it would be better implemented in software, and low and behold, I was directed towards quite a few offerings that would be very difficult to match in hardware due to restrictions in user interface and processing power. I'm not sure the Kronos has the processing power to do the equivalent of modern software additive synths at all...even with NO other EXi's.

It seems to me that after creating a sound with additive in software, the result could potentially be used to create a wavetable that could be loaded into the Kronos. Of course it's an extra step, but software offers a lot of tools that couldn't be done in something like the Kronos - like re-synthesis and multiple methods of modifying the partials.

I hear you. But to me it more demonstrates how unimportant you find some engines that other people value and Korg would never scratch anyway.

In any case, I would also really like to see more unique engines.

If they're not engines that you normally use anyway, then you wouldn't be sacrificing anything at all by their absence. The implication (which I'm sure you didn't intend) is that granular is worth about that much to you: i.e., nothing.

I'm with Sander; it seems like an empty gesture, and I'm not following the significance.

But, yeah, that aside, I'd also love some new engines for the Kronos. Granular with the HD-1's sample library would be pretty sweet, as would a MonoPolyEX.

I have a K5000s, so I don't need additive on the Kronos. Though it'd be great to have it and be able to offload the K5K!

To me, there's not much use for additive in the LIVE market, because that's what the Kronos really addresses IMO. Sure it's great in the studio, but there are so many GREAT software alternatives now that you could actually spend less and get better quality. It's just impractical to take that live at the moment. The Kronos is that marriage between of hardware synths of old and a software synth.

Yeah, I have the K5000S too but with its 4 ch multi timbrality and tons of quirkyness I would love an additive engine inside Kronos, preferably with resynthesis like you can do with K5000 using SoundDiver..

As for granular.. I don't even know what that is ! I think I have to read up on that.. sounds interesting.. :D
