PA600QT Setup for Use with External Sequencer Software (DP8)

Post by DMerkel »

I have a PA600QT connected to my Windows 7 PC via USB2 for interface with Digital Performer 8. I am wanting to create some sequences using the keyboard as the controller.

After setting the Global:MIDI options, the instructions on page 190 of the PA600 manual state to "Press SEQUENCER to go into sequencer mode." However, when I go press SEQUENCER, my software no longer receives MIDI data (I have it set-up for MIDI thru). DP8 received MIDI data when in STYLE PLAY mode, but the octaves are incorrect, and instrument/sound assignments are not what I selected on the tracks in the Sequencer mode.

Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks in advance!

Questions:

1) Why are you in the sequencer mode if you want to lay down tracks in DP?

2) If your plan is to use the keyboard sequencer mode to create a sequence (by using some kind of preset style) then you don't have to be hooked up to DP at all. Once you created the sequence, export it as a midi file. Then, import the midi in DP.

In this particular instance I am not relying on the styles of the PA600, I'm using it as: 1) a MIDI controller (master keyboard) for DP, and 2) for some of the sound samples (more specifically as a multi-timbral expander).

I am writing some arrangements from scratch for upcoming live performance settings, automated with DP. My plans were to use some of the virtual instrument sounds I have in DP, combined with the sounds from the PA600 (via MIDI thru), all controlled by the PA600.

I was following Korg's Reference Guide for the PA600, on page 190, but the keyboard is not sending MIDI data to DP8 as the Reference Guide states. I have verified the lack of MIDI data by using a MIDI monitor when the keyboard is in Sequencer mode.

I'm hoping someone has a workaround for this, can point me in the right direction, or help me see something obvious that I'm overlooking.

Thanks!
