OS 1.63 Released.

Post by Sharp »

To quote KORG's website.
The new operating system for our flagship arranger. Connect your Pa3X to an iPad or an Android tablet, and enjoy the new exciting Sounds and Performances
http://www.korgpa.com/support/products/ ... tware.html

Unless I'm missing something here, I see no mention of anything that relates to iPad and Android connectivity in the manual.

Regards
Sharp.

With no instructions in the manual to go on with regards to what this Android connectivity even is (from what I can see), I just tried to connect my Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Tab 2 to the Pa3X.

All I see is the Pa3X in a loop trying to connect to a removable device. Same as it has done in the past when I tried to charge my phone off the USB port.

Very odd there is no mention of what this is supposed to be in the manual.

Regards
Sharp.

Hi.
Did you try with the regular cable or with USB OTG one to the sqared USB port?

My S3 uses a bog standard USB cable. Mini USB on the side that connects to my phone, normal on the other end.

This "USB OTG", never heard of that before. Just looking at Google Images, I don't see any of those having the square / reverse port on them. They look to be only a converter.

Am I missing something here?

If this is all supposed to go in reverse, being able to simply turn the Pa3X into a big ass memory stick doesn't really appeal to me at all.

That's just plain weird! It would've made much more sense to just come out and say hey people, this is what WE (Korg Italy) meant by Tablet Connectivity update!!!

I mean the squared USB of the Pa3x. The USB OTG it has to be as you seen it.
I guess as far as you connect the phone this way you can send and receive some MIDI data.
I just thinking this way because that's how the Kronos with thr iPad works.

I wonder if you might need to connect to the square USB device port at the back rather than the standard host ports. The trouble is coming up with a cable that goes from square (host) to mini USB on the Tablet.
I don't have very high hopes of it recognizing my Tablet because I can't even get my Windows 7 PC to do that. I'd be interested to know if anyone has the connection thing working.

You have to d a factory restore after you do the update, in order to access the new sounds/performances. It's mainly new sounds, nor performances, from the quick look I gave it, when I installed it earlier.

I was expecting some styles, and some more info about what new features there are. Judging by the documentation, this was a maintenance release, more than anything else, and I suspect the main idea behind it was to quash undisclosed bugs.

Reuben,

I've had my Pa3X working with both my Win 7 PC and my iPad V3.

I use a USB A?B cable - this type cable was originally used to connect printers to the PC. Has the square plug on the keyboard end and the flat end for the PC or iPad.

Works like a charm.

''It's mainly no new sounds, nor performances, from the quick look I gave it, when I installed it earlier'' That's exactly what I meant Dmkeys.

Waiting a month for this... I access my IPad with iRigMIDI since day one and if this update is just to turn the Pa3X into a big ass memory stick as Sharp mildly put it, it's definitely not interesting.

I hope they come up with something more usable.

I don't think Korg is obligated to add additional features at this point. That said, I do think that it is poor business on their part to "hype" an update that really doesn't have any standout features. Why get customers excited about something, only to let them down? IMO, it'd been better if they hadn't announced this update at all, and simply released it. I think a lot of us were expecting something bigger, based on Korg's own hype.

IMO, Korg has a lot of work to do with regard to customer relations, at least in my country - USA. The worst customer service experiences I've had with music gear manufacturers have been with Korg. It's disappointing, because I want to love the products, and the PA3X fills a need for me, but I could switch to a Tyros5 and get everything I needed done with that too, I imagine.
