VCA on patchbay

Post by ghostly606 »

Can someone explain the purpose of the VCA on the patch bay? The manual is as clear as mud on the subject! :P

Maybe a simple patch will help you understand (I struggled a little to describe the function with words alone).

Patch Tri of Mod Gen Out to VCA In
Patch VCA Out to Total In
On EG1, set Delay to 2, Attack to 2
Bring up EG1/Ext under the Mixer section to 5 or so

Play a key on the MS - you will hear a delay and then the vibrato will fade in.

What's going on is that if you do not patch anything into the Control input of the VCA, it is normalled to EG1. With EG1 set the way described above, the VCA is off for the duration of the Delay level, then brings in the vibrato at a rate set by the Attack level.

What this means is that you can use the VCA patch points to control the amplitude of a signal going to an input point either by using the EG1 or by patching in your own control voltage.

I hope that helps!

Nice, might have to try this when I get home, I was similarly confused by this.

Totally cool option! You can also use it to control filter cutoff independent of EG2, for example.
