Need help playing short wav file on hd1 from SetList slot

Post by ManfredMan »

Could someone tip me off on a simple straightforward way to be able to setup my Kronos 61 to play a wav file (it's saved on hd1) from a Set List slot by holding down C2? This short wav file plays perfectly on the Kronos but when I try various methods of creating multisamples, programs and combinations for the file and then referencing them in my Set List slot, the Set List slot does not work after a reboot of the Kronos. I'm obviously missing a step(s) somewhere along the line. Would really appreciate a complete, but simple, no frills explanation of how to do JUST this from start to finish. All I want as a result of this is to create the objects, boot the Kronos, then select a Set List slot and hold the C2 key down on my Kronos 61 for 6 seconds, and hear the 6 second wav file play, like I can hear it play when I go to "Disk" on the Kronos, highlight the wav file and press play with my stylus. I've successfully created a number of combinations from factory programs that work fine when accessing them from a Set List, but creating something from this wav file and accessing it from the Set List after a boot is stumping me. Being a programming novice on this machine I'm looking for explicit instructions on how to accomplish the task.

Well, perhaps you've might have missed a step or two. Just a few questions before explicit instructions are written...

Are you saving your newly-created mutli-sample data to the SSD? (see Parameter guide pg 841)

If you have saved the multi-sample(s), have you used the KSC Auto-Load function to ensure it's loaded automatically when the Kronos boots? (see Parameter guide pg 756).

The general workflow might be:

1. Load Wav(s)
2. Create Multi-Sample(s)
3. Convert Multi-Sample to Program
4. Save Program
5. (Optional) Create Combi with new Program
6. (If optional combi made) Save Combi
7. Save User Sampling Data (KSC)
8. Add User KSC to Auto-Load
9. Add Program or Combi to Set List
10. Save Set List

I'll post the results of this as soon as possible - it looks good to me.

Success! Thank You, HardSync!

During my prior attempts at setting this up, I had left out the following step in your perfect instructions and that is why my User Sampling Data (KSC) was not accessible - it wasn't loaded:

8. Add User KSC to Auto-Load

Many thanks!

This might be what I need to do. If I were to sample the cash register sound from money by pink Floyd , would this be the way to play that sound prior to the bass line?

Yes - you can record the audio sound you want to sample via one of the audio-in ports on the back of the Kronos or upload a sample sound file from a storage device; either way, once you have the sound saved as a file to the Kronos drive, you can then follow HardSync's procedure to create quick access to the sound byte by playing the specified key on your Kronos keyboard. The default mapped key when creating a multisample for the Kronos 61 is C2 (the bottom key on a Kronos 61 keyboard,) which is what I used. The first step in HardSync's instructions will be to "Load" the sound file you have saved on the Kronos drive. I've got a slot on one of my Set Lists that references the program that uses the multisample created for my sound file - I just select that slot and hold down the C2 key on the Kronos keyboard and the sound plays as long as I hold they key down, which is 6 seconds for my sound file to play through once. Note: the pages HardSync refers to in the Parameter Guide are where the topic containing the relevant information starts - you may need to go a few pages further to find the exact information that pertains to your particular task, if you need to review that info at all - I did and found it very helpful.

Yes HardSync, thank you very much. I was not loading the KSC.

So....suppose I wanted to add a second, different multisample that triggers on the D key for example, in addition to the first sample on the C key? How would I go about that one? Thx, Mark

I presume the Kronos isn't letting you assign the second sample Orig Key to D2 (or whatever key you want)? If that's the problem, then you need to delete some of the indexes. I explain it in this topic, but here's a quick list of the steps needed.

In Sampling mode, go to the P3 Multisample Edit screen.

Select the Index field and dial in the last index, which by default will be 8.

Use the CUT button to delete all the indexes except for the first two indexes, numbers 1 & 2.

With index 2 selected, now you can assign the Orig Key to any key.

Now, in the Sample field, assign your sample to the index.

If everything is working correctly, save your sampling data.

If you later decide you want to add a third sample to the multisample, then you will use the Create button to add a third index. Repeat that for each new sample you want to add.
