Mastering Part 2

Post by chaglan »

Hi again. Either no one has experience with my problem or I have asked a really stupid question and I understand it could be either one. How about some input from the "veterans". Thanks

Not sure what to tell you. I always do this stuff on the computer. Before applying any "mastering" I would make sure you're happy with all the relative levels. Also make sure every instrument has its place in the arrangement, meaning in the stereo field, in the front or back of the mix (reverb/spacing) and in the frequency spectrum (highs, lows, mid lows and mid highs). If you feel your instruments are lacking definition or things are muddy, they're conflicting in one of these areas. A mix is like a puzzle. The arrangement is important, you may have to cut pieces if you're still unhappy after trying to balance these things. Does the Krome have TFX? If so, one or two? I'd recommend setting some gentle compression on TFX1, and finally some brickwall limiting on TFX2 to kill rogue peaks.

All this would be a lot easier in a DAW in my humble opinion.

Hey! Thanks alot. I understand and agree with all you said. I guess my shortcoming (aside from a short time on the WS) is that I haven't made any forays into the computer interface yet. So knowing that you understand what I asked, I assume the final mixing (levels, etc.) is typically done on the computer. Right? Krome has 1 TFX as far as I know.
Thanks again.
