Jordan Rudess Snarling Pig

I have tried recreating the snarling pig on my Kronos, which I have done following these tutorials:

I followed these tutorials and made the snarling pig but it sounds a little bit more different compared to this video at 2:15

The snarling pig in this video sounds less aggressive compared to the one I created following the above tutorials. I'm not too good with synthesis right now, but the snarling pig that JR plays in the video also seems to have the effect "moving up." I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

What would I be able to do to make it sound like the one in the video?
My snarling pig sounds like the one in the last tutorial.

In case you haven't already seen it, check out this topic http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=73960 for a download of this sound for the Kronos.

As for the differences you hear, it's impossible to say because we have no idea what you've done or what your version sounds like -- perhaps it has something to do with the tutorial being done on the M3 rather than the Kronos. In any case, don't take this wrong but if you're not very good at programming synths, I'd strongly recommend focusing on the basics rather than jumping in to complex synth sounds layered in combis. Keep it simple, and build on that knowledge gained.

My version of the snarling pig sounds exactly like the one in the tutorials. Ypu should be able to tell what the difference is. I'm still needing help, so anyone who can give some pointers to me would be much appreciated.

The difference to me is that it seems that the flanger effect "moves up higher and opens up."

Have you tried the patch from HardSync's linked thread? There's also a youtube video in there where Jordan Rudess talks a little about how he gets the sound (although he doesn't do a tutorial).

Yes, I have downloaded and put the patch into my K but it sounds exactly the same as the one I made from scratch. I have also watched the video.

Hi there! I'm a huge Rudess fan and also had a problem making my own Snarling Pig sound. I've also watched a lot of his videos and have bits on DVD's where he says that he rarely uses the same version of the sound twice. That could be yours and my problem.

The sound in the Tutorials is more or less the sound that he starts with but then he adjusts it to fit a particular song. Sometimes he makes it less aggressive and other times more aggresive.

If I was to guess, he is doing this by adjusting the tone of his filters adn also by adjusting his IFX.

Another thing to remember is that the sound you hear on cd or video is after it has been mixed into the song.

One thing you might try, if you have an iPad, is to download Jordantron. It has all of his sounds on it. You can buy it at the App store.

I just dropped by to say I saw Dream Theater yesterday here in Buenos Aires.

it totally depends on the sound that he wants. For Snarling Pig he's using AL-1. He uses a lot of diferent synthesizers in the studio. He can afford all of them so for live he samples sounds from them.

I suggest that you look at a lot of his videos on Youtube.

Also, if you can buy or borrow an iPad, then download his program Jordantron. He says it has all of his sounds on it.

I have it and as far as I can tell, yes it does.From there you can multi sample his sounds for your own use I guess.

I'm not entirely sure if that is legal but he is letting his sounds out for your own use so I guess it must be okay.
