Style like sounds

Post by silverdragonsound »

On the M3, there are certain sounds that have a style like quality. What I mean is like an arranger, the left hand plays a key or chord and you get an accompaniment and the right hand can solo on an instrument sound. My question is does Korg or any 3rd party source offer sounds created like this for the M3. I ask since I am making the transition from band playing to playing solo. I also would love to be able to keep my m3. I know the M3 has the ability to make these sounds, but time is an issue for me so if I could some premade I could work with it, that would be easier for me. Thanks in advance for your replies.

The M3 isn't really an arranger. It has KARMA which can behave KINDA like an arranger sometimes but if you're looking for things like intros, endings and fills they're not there.

As long as you're ok with that there are a lot of KARMA soundsets available. Your best bet is probably http://www.karma-lab.com/main.html?p=index.html, home of KARMA and its creator Stephen Kay.

To add to what SanderXpander pointed out, the M3's KARMA-fied combinations are not "arranger" type sounds that you find in Korg's PA series or Yamaha Tyros arrangers etc. This continues to be a misconception of KARMA software. Let me put it this way: Use an arranger workstation to perform styles to play cover songs. Use KARMA-fied combinations to create and produce your own multi-voiced compositions.

If you are looking for more M3 KARMA-fied collections, go here http://www.karma-lab.com/sounds/m3.html.

Thanks for the replies guys, I really appreciate it. While I am not an expert by any means on the Karma, I do use it fairly regularly on my M3. I honestly find it to be such an incredibly fun thing to noodle around with. Its such an amazing piece of technology to have in workstation and when I play around with it, I go off into many creative different avenues. As I read your replies and thought about my situation more, I began to change my thinking. Since I am now more of a one man outfit, why not use an arranger and the M3 together. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense and the possibilities I began to think of were amazing and got me excited. Now the money part.....

Hi
I use a yamaha arranger part and a korg m3. Would like to know the easiest way I can transfer styles available on yamaha to the m3 without re playing the styles.

The M3 is not an arranger. You have two options;
1. Record your styles in the sequencer. This will only allow you to play back complete songs, not use them as styles. You will need to reassign all sounds and, if your Yamaha uses "mega voices", edit the parts.
2. Make midi parts of each individual instrument part and using separately sold KARMA software convert these parts into KARMA GEs. Load those GEs in the M3. This will allow you to use them as "styles", but you won't have intro, ending or fill buttons (KARMA doesn't support this). It's also an incredible amount of work.

If he just needs the sound and not necessarily the ability to edit functionality, could he just sample the style as a sound and use it that way? I'm not too familiar with styles and just got an arranger so I am learning the logistics of them.

styles

Post by pradeepnprabhu »

thanks for the advice..
if i record all style parts in the sequencer using sys exclusive messages too, would it sound the as in the yamaha arranger..why i ask this is because reassigning the voices may not sound as it does on the yamaha because there are some dsp effects which are not visible when recording styles...
also is it the karma m3 software which allows you to generate GEs..?
thks

No it won't sound as in the Yamaha because all the instruments and fx are different. After a little work it would sound "kinda" like the Yamaha.

user drum pattern

Post by pradeepnprabhu »

i've made a drum pattern using a wav loop after time slicing and stored as a user pattern using the convert to drum track pattern...
Later, when i try playing the drum pattern, it sounds different because it uses the default kit which doesnt have the multisample...
how do i resolve this..
any clues..
thanks

Yes that is much of the point of the Karma M3 software.

As for the drum pattern, it sounds as if you didn't make a drum program out of the multisample.
