How can I write "Ribbon Control" into cubase?
Hello,
I love to play my KronosX with variuos ribbon-controlling.
But how can I write it into midi or Virtual Instrument track of Cubase?
Joystick, SW1, SW2 actions are written well into the track,
But ribbon controlling looks not available.
How can I save Ribbon control to Cubase?
Is there only one way that record as "Audio Track" ?

Ribbon controller (CC#16) [Bn, 10, vv]

Does your Virtual Instrument track of Cubase recognize this controller? Sounds like this is a Cubase issue. Here is their forum:

Dear Kay,StephenKay wrote:You should absolutely be able to record ribbon (CC#16) just the same as those other controllers you mention. Perhaps it is not enabled in Cubase, or is filtered out.
I'm so glorious that, Karma developer answered personally!:D
By the way,
I can confirm Midi In&Out Activity react in the transport panel of cubase
when I play any keys or joystick or SW1 SW2.
But when I touch ribbon controller, only MIdi In Acitivity reacts.
I have a feeling it's one of my problems.
Could you please give some advices to solve it?

I know what the problem is
HI!!
I don't post here often - but when I see a problem with a simple solution - I post a reply.
You have to go to the where your MIDI IN is selected and make sure it says "KORG KEYBOARD."
Then:
You have to go to the where your MIDI OUT is selected and make sure it says "KORG SOUND."
Then you will be very happy. It's USB that is sending the midi signal you seek. I have it working.

As I wrote.above, All other actions such as joystick, Sw1, sw2 etc, are recorded well.
Only ribbon.controlling is problem.
If my midi setup was wrong, all other midi actions would not be worked.

I guess it's time you told us what your MIDI and d DAW configurations are. are you running the latest OS for the Kronos? Are you using USB MIDI. Does Cubase have MIDI filtering? Is the ribbon filtered out in the MIDI Filters Tab. Are you using the Kronos as a plug-in. Your pictures we nice but they don't show us how your system is set up. try setting up a new test sequence and see if you can get the ribbon to work that way. If it does then it something specific you are working on.

I understand exactly what you are showing. It's very odd that operating joystick shows MIDI activity on both in/out, yet ribbon only shows activity on in.H.S.Lee wrote:Dear Kay and all power users,StephenKay wrote:You should absolutely be able to record ribbon (CC#16) just the same as those other controllers you mention. It's like it is being filtered somewhere. I see picture of MIDI Filter, so I don't see it.
But I think it's clear that Kronos is not the problem. Cubase is receiving CC#16 from Kronos. Just, Cubase is deciding for some reason to ignore it. I can't help with that, I don't really use Cubase. Perhaps, as another person suggested, you should ask Cubase forums. Or perhaps, you could ask on Motifator, a lot of Yamaha keyboardists are using Cubase....
Add fear as MIDI filtering goes, I am talking about the MIDI filters on the Kronos. These are transmit filters. have you explored the MIDI filters on the Kronos?

Hi,
I'm a Cubase 7.5 User, and I just tried to see if (without doing anything special) that my Kronos Ribbon input would be recorded.
It was. So it must be something specific about your setup.
The in/out activity that you have reported, definitely sounds like it is being filtered or swallowed up somehow, but I could not see anything wrong with your MIDI preferences.
I did my test without setting an output track, so had no out activity (as expected), but CC16 (the MIDI CC for the Ribbon) was recorded fine
I did a quick Google search for "cubase not recording midi CC", and maybe the problem for this user could also be your problem and thus potential solution?
http://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtop ... 81&t=62913
I just tried messing about with Quick Controls myself (something I have never looked at before), you can find it under the Devices/Device Setup.. menu option and then look under Remote Devices/Track Quick Controls
The first thing of interest there is that MIDI CC 16 is the first entry, so a ittle bit of a "smoking gun" there, which prompted me to dig further.
I had no MIDI channels assigned to Track Quick Controls, but when I assigned Quick Control MIDI Inputs to the Kronos MIDI Port, and I had Quick Controls active on the MIDI track I was recording data into, then I got the same problem as you are reporting, i.e. all MIDI CC data being recorded other than the Ribbon (CC16). It didn't matter if I set an output for the Quick Controls or not, just having the same input port selected for Quick Controls AND having Quick Controls enabled on the same track you are recording on seemed to be enough
So this is hopefully your problem, and it can be rectified by stopping MIDI Quick Controls from receiving MIDI data (assuming you are not using them), or removing CC16 from the list of Quick Controls.
HTH.
And I learnt something new about Cubase today whilst looking at this.
