How to install the EXs109 Bolder Free Library

1. On your computer, unzip the exs109 file.
2. Copy the whole folder to a usb stick (do not unzip the rar.gz file inside)
3. Copy the exs109 file from the usb stick to the internal drive of the kronos by pressing the disk button, going to the utilities section, selecting the usb drive and then selecting the exs109 folder, select copy from the upper right utilities menu, then select the internal drive and press paste.
4. select the internal drive. open the exs109 folder.
5. Select the EXs109.exsins file. Press the upper right utilities menu, press install exs.

after that is done, you want to authorize the library. To do this:

1. Press the global button on the Kronos
2. Choose the options menu on the bottom right of the screen
3. Select the exs109 bolder library
4. Press authorize
5. When the screen pops up, enter the key you got from the korg store.

Thank you for posting the instructions for installing and authorizing the Bolder Library. However, my Kronos will not allow me to install the library after following your instructions.

After unzipping EXs109.zip three files are created in EXs109 folder:
(1) EXs109.exsins
(2) EXs109.tar
(3) S109

I copied the EXs109 folder to a flash drive and then to the following location on my Kronos hard drive: Patches/Bolder

Now when I highlight the EXs109 folder to start the installation process, Install EXs is greyed out (i.e., not selectable). However, Install EXs is selectable when I highlight EXs109.exsins file inside the EXs109 folder.

I am doing something wrong, misunderstood your instructions or did you mean to type select "EXs109.exsins" instead of EXs109 folder for the install EXs?

Also, I copy the EXs109 to the root directory on the Kronos (thinking the directory path was too long) but it still will not allow the install when EXs109 folder is highlighted.

BTW, I running the latest OS 2.1.2 on a Kronos X 88.

I screwed up but have fixed my own instructions.

You do in fact select the EXs109.exsins file and then press install exs from the menu.

I just installed succesfully the Boulder 109 free library,
much thanks to Boulder btw. !! ...and to you Guys here describing the procedure.
what i don´t understand is if there are any soundprogramms coming with it
and where i find these ?
i´m totally new to this ( but finally donne allready my own .KSC and programms )
I have the same problem also with the K-sounds Grand Piano Demo btw.

For that you're going to have to read the manual...just kidding

1. Press the program button on the Kronos

2. If you installed them by loading "all" and not manually selecting where they went, they will be in user-g bank.

The first sound is called HarmonicaSW1=samp.vib

That will let you know you are looking at the bolder free library set.

I have only my three sounds in the User G bank, nothing else.
so i did something incorrectly

you speak from the single files / samples ?
wait, i got it.
I´ve not had the .PCG file loaded. I just loaded the .PCG now and the sounds are there.

this yields to the next question:
my own sounds from userbank G are now gonne.
How can i have both ? what are the ways to handle such situations ?
saving your Favorites to another location ?

and do i have to load the .PCG allways manually ?
how to get all loaded with the .KSC autoload ?

I hope you backed up your sounds, otherwise they're gone now :/
Loading a PCG from disk mode directly means the Kronos assumes you want to load everything in it to the preset locations.
The easiest way to select a location is to not click "load" on the PCG but use "open". That will let you navigate inside it. Select "programs" and do "open" again. Now you'll see the bank name. If you click "load" now it will prompt you for a location. Default will be user-g but you can change it. Pick an empty HD1 bank.

Incidentally, you could actually navigate further inside to load (or audition!) individual programs to a location of your choice.

SX is right, you may have wiped out sounds that you loaded into the user-g bank. However, if you saved any of them on the internal drive, you can reload them.

But yes, it looks like they didn't load the way you wanted them to.

If you only have three sounds in the user-g bank, the simplest thing to do is to load the set by pressing load in the lower left hand corner while in disk mode (pressing the disk button on the kronos), navigating to the exs109.pcg file and selecting it. press the load button.

another screen will come up asking where you want them to go. select user-g (the default) on the left and user-g on the right. MAKE SURE to also check load the .ksc file too (those are the samples). But make sure you have enough room in sample memory.

if you did it as I describe, you can go to the user-g bank in the programs and you should see all the sounds there.

Another often-forgotten trick:

When you have navigated into a Program Bank folder on your media, you can highlight a given sound and it will be live on your keyboard, before you load it into a given location. A great way to pre-audition a sound before deciding to load it into your Kronos. Korg workstations have been offering this "audition from disk" for sounds since the Triton...

Just a notice about PCG files :
- PCG can contain only a partial User Bank U-X , and no matter how you load it , only User Bank U-X will be loaded.
- In commercial packs like EXs libraries , PCG contain only the necessary data and will never overwrite all your user banks.
- You must never change loading destination of sound Banks since you will loose association with Combinations.
- You can only change combination Banks destination position when opening PCG file for partial loading.
- You must never ignore other contained data in a PCG file like Global , Wave-Seq , Drum Kits , since developers always
have significant reasons to include those files in a PCG file , that you ignore.

For all these reasons , it's highly recommended , first save your previous PCG and then always load the whole PCG file of an official EXs library !

Some remarks about this:
- Indeed, always make a backup!
- PCG files can contain multiple banks, however, only the banks contained in the PCG file are overwriting the content of your synth if you load the PCG file. Other banks will be as is.
- With PCG Tools you can copy programs/combis wherever you want and it will not break combis; even if you change programs/combis locations.
- PCG Tools will not copy wavesequences/drum kits (this is a limitation).

As long as there are no combis in the set you can load them wherever you want without breaking any links (because there aren't any, unless you overwrite other sounds on purpose).

You will ONLY be prompted for a location if you open the PCG first and navigate inside until you see the bank, as far as I'm aware.

Great ! ...that helps alots and saves me further questions

i lost some sounds, seems that only my first attempt to save a .KSG and .PRG was working. ...saving later versions weren´t working as i saw now, while i thought i did it right.
anyway, its still the test-out and learning phase.
