No audio from Bass/Keys/Beats headphone jacks?

Post by adredd »

OK, what have I done wrong here? I'm getting absolutley no signal from the headphone jack. Unplugging it, I can hear the audio from the internal speaker, but nothing from the headphone jack. This is happening on all three devices: a Volca Beats, a Volca Bass, and a Volca Keys, all less that three weeks old. Previously all worked fine (albeit the Keys were a bit noisy). Have tried the reset holding down FUNC and MEMORY while booting up then pressing the blinking REC button. No luck. Tried putting in batteries, unplugging the AC adapter, no luck. Tried plugging in the AC adapter and taking out the batteries, no luck. Tried with and without MIDI cable plugged in. Yes, the volume was turned up (otherwise I wouldn't have heard anything from the internal speaker).

I have GOT to be missing something very obvious here, but I just can't figure out what it is... Any ideas?

Stupid question, but have you tried plugging different headphones (rather than patch cables) into the socket as a sanity check?

Yes, have tried 3 different headphones now (all known to work having tried them on an iPad) as well as myriad different cables into my mixer (also tried changing mixer channels, plugged in different instruments into the same mixer channels, etc. etc.). Also just blew in compressed air into the jacks thinking something might have been clogging them (but really, all three? With the same issue?)

Guessing the only thing left to do now is simply return these things. Pity, had such high hopes for them. Unless someone else can come up with an idea (or if Korg's Tech Support will ever get back with me...)

You haven't accidentally plugged it into the sync output instead?

There's no way all 3 can be defective! Are you using standard TRS stereo headphones?

What have you been plugging into there? maybe you've shorted something out?

Was there anything you recall changing or doing differently when the headphone out stopped working?

Ha ha, understandable, but no, not in the Sync In or Out.

Not doing anything different at all, just plugging them in. It's the same standard cable I've always used, 1/8 inch mono to 1/4 inch mono. The headphones are standard iPhone earbuds as well as Audio Technica ATH-M30x's.

Perhaps a power surge/grounding issue? Maybe that shorted the thing(s) out? They were all powered via AC adapters, purchased via Amazon's recommendation on the AC Adapter to purchase.

one last thing, have you tried a 1/8 stereo to 1/4 mono cable?

I've tried every combination of cable I could find in my bag of tricks. No joy.

But lowest common denominator: the Volca's SHOULD produce sound via headphones from the headphone jack, correct? Mine always have in the past. So that's the approach I'm taking now, LCD, and that headphone jack (on all three) just simply doesn't seem to function any longer.

Weird...

Sorry, no, it does. "lowest common denominator"

OK. Well, idk what else to tell you with out testing it out myself. If nothing is working on all 3, then something might have shorted each of them out.

Best to see if Korg or store warranty can cover this and you can have them replaced or repaired.

Yea, my thoughts, too. Like like it's time to package them up and ship them back. Thanks for the insights!
